I went to school with Fred from elementary school.  Very smart guy with a friendly personality.  Don't know what career he pursued by I always thought he would be a nuclear physicist or something equally challenging.  RIP.  Ken Kelly

I knew Fred from classes at Napa High and playing together on the tennis team.  He was a great kid and we had fun together.   He signed my yearbook "Thumper".  That was the nickname that we gave him on the tennis team after a Napa Register sportswriter wrote that Fred and Jerry Marco "thumped" their opponents from Montgomery in doubles.

It is really sad that he and his wife died so young, but he really accomplished a lot in the time that he had.

Obituary:

Fred Organ, 35, of Stephentown, died following an automobile accident last Saturday in Duanesburg, N.Y.

He was a teacher in the Berlin Central School System, and was currently teaching fifth grade in Cherry Plain. He had served as President of the Cherry Plain Parent-Teachers Organization, and was currently chairman of the Gifted and Talented Committee in the school.

Fred taught the high school equivalency program in the evenings at the Cherry Plain School, and taught reading in a special migrant education program which operated in the county during the summer months.

Prior to teaching in the Berlin Central system, he was a teacher at the Chatham Central Middle School in Chatham, N.Y., where he taught physical education. Fred and his wife both have been active members of the Federated Church in Stephentown.

He was a 'charter member' of the Echo Softball League, and had played with Sykes team and the Cherry Plain softball teams.

His wife, the former Patricia LeSage, was injured in the same automobile accident and remains in critical condition in the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Fred was born in Napa, California, son of Werdna Andrews Organ and the late Lawrence Organ. He was a graduate of Napa High School and the University of California. He worked for a time at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, Conn.

Fred was such a likeable guy who managed to be both incredibly intelligent & a good athlete.  If I remember correctly, he played third base on our excellent Ridgeview baseball team.  He was obviously doing good things as an adult and was a big loss to everyone who knew him.  I have thought of him often over the years.

I roomed with Fred our first year at UC Davis.  While my wife and I were living in northern Virginia, Fred was living in Atlanta with college friends.  They were working with underprivileged kids.  One time Fred brought some kids to Washington, DC, and they all slept on the floor of our tiny apartment living room.  He and Patty eventually moved to upstate New York and became teachers.  I was shocked when they were killed in the car accident.

Fred was a close high school friend of mine.  We played tennis, golf and chess together, among other things, and he helped me with math. He had a very bright mind. He went on to graduate from UC, Davis with an engineering degree and I believe picked up a Master's Degree as well. He moved to New York and took a job with Pratt Whitney.  He became disallusioned with that path, and he and his wife decided to devote themselves to educating young children. He became an elementary school teacher. Very sad that Fred died so young.
