2 memories of LISA MILLERS house....

memory one: standing in your garage slamming a 2 liter of wine cooler with the gang, door opens, mom walks out, and everyone takes off running, leaving me standing there with a big ole sun country....

memory two: sitting on the back patio/deck drinking beer at the graduation get together... your dad asked me if i wanted to put the beer in his friends cooler to keep it cold... very cool. so i did. after finishing my first beer i walk to the cooler and your dads buddy says "what do you want" and i said "a beer" and he said "what beer" and i said "the beer i put in your cooler" and he said, "i think you are mistaken, the beer in this cooler is mine" i had no arguement for that, so i sat beerless... and beaten... and very thirsty.

carl,
my gosh, i do remember the chase. i am trying to recall, i don't know what kind of small building was in the yard or something, i can remember thinking... god let me catch him and then what?

my daughter is now grounded due to her mother's know how and fear of young boys!

lisa, my memory is not so good either and i agree, the more stories told, the more refreshed i am.
i do remember you had a new years eve party but i cant tell you what happened at it. i am sure it involved intoxication and kissing at midnight.

chris meldrum, did you know chris meldrum is playing at bg pub this saturday? is that you?

if anyone if bored, there is a haunted house/hay ride/bonfire at 26 mile and gratiot. i will be there with shawn snyder and crew.

hey we made it through hump day!

I still can't believe how cool my parents were about our parties. They used to pretend like they didn't know there was drinking going on, but it was hard to hide the truth when my mom would suck up a beer cap in the vacuum. Oops - must have missed that one.

Senior year, we moved into our new house - right next door to our old one. For the first party in the new house, some of our classmates hadn't gotten the memo on the address change and just walked in on our new neighbors, carrying cases of beer, looking for the party.

Oh, Jeff - I'm sorry about the beers. I owe you. First round will be on me - promise. xo

Kristine,

Is the hay ride at the green house off 26 mile road past gratiot?

Hey Jeff, can you please just put me out of my misery and announce Heidi as the 88vs08 challenge winner? This dead last thing is painful.

Also, is there a consolation prize for the loser? Like a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni or Oxyclean?

Carl Pesta (M Pesta)

Bellhorn: I was admiring the paint job on the car. Hysterical.
Kris, I'm much slower now. Try to catch me!
Jenn, Any rap tunes in the mix? Ask Johnny Mink for some Run DMC
Shedlock: Yes, what were our parents thinking? I wanna be like them. P.S. I was at a party with my parents tonight. Still not a better couple to hang with.
See you all SOON.
Murph: Is it 6pm yet?

10/09/08 01:04 AM #326

Jeffrey Murphy

CARL... yup... 6pm came and went as did many beers.... yummy.

now i remember who rambo hated the most. JOHN PECK! that dog hated john so much that standing anywhere near him was like playing russian roulette... rambo was mean. a mean mean doggie. i am only affraid of one thing more than rambo.... ex girlfriends.

Lisa... the beers were missed... yes. but its all part of under aged drinking. i cant recall how many times my beers were confiscated by "adults" (probably younger than us now) i think that the state police knew theuts car, cause every time we splurged for a good beer, it was taken 10 minutes later. so then we had to go back to the store and get busch...

Have a Great Day Everybody.. it is going to be a beautiful weekend? Anyone heading to the apple orchards this weekend?

Jen - I 2nd the RUN DMC. Raising Hell has been my lawn mowing album for the last three weeks.

The motorhead video rocks. One of my favorites. I love that Lemmy's microphone is about a foot over his head.

A few posts back, someone mentioned Mr. Plawecki. I ran into him at a pre-bid meeting a few years back. He was the vice principal of a middle school in Royal Oak. Still looked like Gene Wilder.

Heidi, congratulations.

Carl and Jason, you guys must have missed the RunDMC "Hard Times" song of the day a while back. But since you placed a request I'll be happy to oblige. So for today's song of the day, I'm picking two songs. The first one is Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" and the second is Afrikka Bambaataa's "Planet Rock". Bambaataa sampled the hell out of Kraftwerk's music and launched a whole new genre of rap and electronic music.

Kraftwerk:

Since you mentioned Kraftwerk, here is a great clip from "Breakin". Turbo dances to Tour De France.

This movie is hysterical to see now.

While driving home last night from the airport at 1:00 am after another work-related trip I was listening to "Wherever I may roam" by Metallica. I think that is a good song for those of us that have moved around quite a bit in the past 20 years. I have lived in 7 states and two foreign countries since high school, so "roaming" is probably a good term to use. Next summer we are moving to Wisconsin so I can start my Ph.D. and it will be the closest to Michigan I will have lived since I went to Indiana Univ. for grad school ('92-'94).

How many other people from our class are in the military (active or reserve/guard)? How many veterans? I know Jay Lodge went Air Force ROTC and several folks enlisted. Anyone else been deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq? Please no political commentary about the wars...

Kristine,

Shawn is most likely going to Manas Air Base in Kyrgyzstan and that is not a bad place. I flew through there a few times while deployed to Afghanistan. I could not understand how they draw hostile fire pay even though they do not get attacked and get to drink beer. They also have some nice living conditions and great food. Plus the Air Force only deploys for 4 months on average which is much better than those of us in the Army that go over for 12 months at a time.

Memories from 21 years ago (on this day twenty-one years ago)

On 10-9-88, the homecoming court nominations(top ten) were announced. Joanne Perry, Kathy Karry, Kris Boggess, Julie Fournier, Cindi Tilton, Krista Furah, Lisa Miller, Lisa Egleston, Nicole Cassisa and Amy Busby. Nobody cares about the top ten Men. From this list the class was asked to narrow it down to the top four.

On Saturday (10-10-88) Ab Tars football beat Roseville 13-12 and the Marysville CC meet was also run.

Over the weekend (10-9-88 to 10-11-88) I saw saw three movies. To my embarrassment, they were "Witch Board" and "The boy in the Bubble" that I watched at Heather B's house and "Nightmare on Elm Street 3" that I saw at Dino's.

Homecoming float building parties and Theme-Week began on Monday 10-12-88. Monday's theme was Hawaiian day. The vote was taken for homecoming court. I voted for John Peck (sorry Murf) and Krista Furtah.

On Tuesday 10-13-88 the Senior Homecoming court was announced… girls were Lisa Egleston, Kristah Furtah (my horse), Julie Fournier and Amy Busby. Men were…..Chris O’Regan, Jeff Murphy, TJ Balinski and Mike Huff. (Heather, I still think you got robbed.)

Kris B and Rae Ann - I'm planning on dressing up since it's one of the rare occasions that I can get out from behind my computer and put on something pretty but mostly because I happened to accidentally find a pretty dress at TJ Maxx. Though it all hinges upon whether or not I can fit into it by then. But at the rate this economy is going, I may end up in a potato sack.

Kris B - Please tell Shawn I said hi and stay safe.

Mike B - I'll take your request into consideration. I did randomly post the Beastie Boy's Paul Revere some time ago, but that was before I was doing the song of the day.

Joey - Finally! I've been hoping we would get to see some of those journal entries! ;)

good stuff joey, although not quite as explicit as the "20 years ago" emails that you sent me all year.

those rocked!

i am bringing bruce murphy as my date to the reunion... unless he finds something "better" to do.

Mike Huff won king... but i vote for chris... i thought he had a shot.

krista, i voted for you. you always were my best friend of the female kind... and oh so pretty.... dennis keller hated me for that btw.

so i was thinking... why dont we define the dress code for the reunion.... all 80s! i have some parachute pants and a skinny tie... brucie could grow his mustache to look like prince again, the girls could wear leg warmers or shirts with shoulder pads... (who the f thought that looked good?) ummm... no, on second thought, that sucks. my pants would burst and not from looking at the girls in shoulder pads.

jimmy huff won court.

and i don't think i was a consideration for homecoming court, was I? we will keep the memory just like that. and why don't you feel bad i didn't win? ha. hell, i didn't even remember it to be an option. made my day joey. thanks.

10/10/08 07:43 AM #341

Amy Busby (Prestridge)

Congratulations, Heidi!!! I hope your day is absolutely perfect!!

10/10/08 08:55 AM #342

Tracey Wolf (Feril)

Heidi -

Congrats!! Have a great day - it will be one of the best in your life!

10/10/08 09:10 AM #343

Lisa Miller (Shedlock)

Its Heidi's BIG DAY! We'll be thinking about you, girl! Have fun!!

Thanks for the flash back Joey (Keep them coming)! That was a good one for me, even though I wasn't chosen for the true court. Heather had a great name for all of us left-overs who weren't chosen...Crumb Court. I loved that!

I vote for dressing up at the reunion. I have new shoes I am dying to wear. I'll be as tall as Mike Thompson. I just hope I don't tip over.
