Since I apparently have the board all to myself, I'm going to post one of my favorite songs from one of my all time favorite bands. The Sisters of Mercy with "Lucretia My Reflection" from 1987's Floodland. I can't wait to see them in concert next month... time to start digging out all my black gothic-y clothes.

Which reminds me of my favorite SNL skits ever "Goth Talk":

For all of the grief I've given to Joe Ales over the years, I feel now is the time for me to say something nice about that prick...opps old habit.
Joe is one of those friends that you can talk to once a year and feel perfectly as ease that you will pick up where you left off. For the past 3 years, I've planned a small get together in the fall for family and close friends. We take advantage of living in the sticks and offer a hay ride for the kids and relaxation for the adults. I always include Joe and his family on my invite knowing well that he will likely not attend unless he happens to be in town visiting his in-laws or his family. As expected, Joe declined this year but offered his appreciation for the invite. A week or so later he changed his mind and accepted the invite. I didn't ask any questions about why he changed his mind as I assumed they would be visiting family while they were in town. Anyhow, the party was last weekend. Joe and his family drove in from Chicago and arrived in the early afternoon. We had great weather and it was a pleasure catching up with Joe and his family throughout the afternoon. As the day stretched on, Joe and Erin decided it was time to go and asked for directions back to the freeway. I asked if they were headed to his parents or Erin's. His response was "Neither, we came for your party and are driving back to Chicago tonight." I was shocked and offered to put him up at our house. He declined and said they had planned the day trip all along.
Thanks Joe. I truly appreciate the effort you put into your friends.

Joe obviously can afford the gas too, what a friend!

We are finally at 2.95 here, yes, better than the 4.25 a few months ago but still pisses me off to no end.

Jen, Sisters of Mercy played here 2 years ago and lip-sync'd. It was so dumb.

Where is Lisa Miller?

Heidi - wow really? I saw Sisters around '95 or so at the State Theatre and it was an awesome show. I hope they don't lip sync when they come this time. I'd be very sad.

So no one answered about staying the night at the Book Cadillac. C'mon where's the spirit??? Well you all can not stay in my room, especially Mr. Thompson, your too damn tall to fit in the bed. So are we all going to party all night or what?????? I am taking the following Monday off to prepare!!!

Hey Chris... you might have missed the posts a while back. Lisa Miller, Julie Schmidt, and I are all staying at the Book and several others are as well (I believe Mike Thompson and Heidi G. too).

Here I am !!! :-D

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. Its been really boring here.... 80 and sunny everyday...parties to attend...Film Fest was last weekend...Voodoo Music Experience is this weekend...boring, boring stuff...just kidding. Its been crazy busy here in the Big Easy!

I am staying at the Book. I know Diane Barbour is too. We should all check in early. That way, we can get ready together...it'll be just like prom! We can do each other's hair (sorry, Jeff) and nails. Mike Thompson wants a nice pedicure.

I can't WAIT to see you ALL! I agree with Mike Theut...it doesn't matter how long it is in between reunions, it'll be like we were never apart...because we are the coolest, funnest, most awesome-est group to ever graduate together.

Hey Killer - where are the wedding photos?

So what's everyone dressing up as for Halloween? Lee and I and four of our friends are all dressing up as the characters from the game of Clue. Lee will be Professor Plum and I'm going to be Miss Scarlet. Last year I was a roller derby girl and Lee was the ref. The year before we were characters from Monty Python's Holy Grail. Lee was King Arthur and I was Tim the Enchanter. lol. The beard was wayyy too itchy though. The year before that he was Uncle Rico and I was Deb from Napoleon Dynamite. We LOVE Halloween. :)

Jennifer,
Cincinnati, boring? Whenever I travel to/through Cincinnati, I never leave without having a three-way. I even tried a five-way one time but it was a bit to much for me to handle. If my wife is with me, it usually causes a fight because she doesn't like them.

For such a repressed town, Cincinnati sure likes to give things dirty sounding names. When I first moved down here, I went to a party and they were playing "Cornhole". It's a game where they throw bean bags filled with corn into a hold on board. So weird.

And they have the worst chili ever. I don't know what this brown and runny crap is that they call chili, but it's not what I think of chili. I keep threatening to drag Lee to Lafayette's when we're in Detroit and show him REAL coney islands.

There was a Skyline in Monroe for about a year. I was bummed when it went out of business. So it's really true that I stop any time of the day or night for a three-way when I swing through town.

Mike, I don't know how you can eat that stuff. It's so weird to me. Did you know that they actually put chocolate sauce in their chili? Bizarre. It's way to sweet for what I think of as chili. And the pizza around here is awful. They put sugar(!) in their pizza sauces. UGH. I keep hoping that they'll put a Jet's Pizza down here.

It's like wine, you just need to acquire a taste for multiple varieties.
In the summer months, I sail out of a yacht club in Detroit. I usually stop at Lafayette on my way home. Nothing quite like that place in the evenings.

Ummmmm...I made chili this past weekend and threw a handful of chocolate chips in there. Perhaps that's why there were left overs.

The Detroit Yacht Club? My mom's parents were members waaaaay back in the day. It's still a pretty neat place. I just wish the Detroit Boat Club hadn't been abandoned.

For the record, chocolate in chili is just wrong.

I have sailed out of DYC a few times this year. I've spent most of my time across the river at Bayview Yacht Club.
As I don't own/want a racing sailboat, I crew for whomever provides sandwiches and beer after the race.

BTW: The Detroit Boat Club is still open. It's run by a rowing club. They have a small group that try to keep the place from falling apart. As with many of the buildings in Detroit, they are biding their time and hoping the city will turn around and get some investors.

Hey, Isn't chocolate in chili a Texas thingy. Don't we have a chef in Texas.. .. I have had it before at a cook off along with a white bean chicken chili and it’s just scrumptious. I think you may have done something wrong???

Sorry, my bad it's Steve Lupinski and he's a sushi chef. But I sure he's been to a few chili cook off's.

For anyone wondering what Mike's going on about with the 3-ways and 5-ways:

3-ways and 5-ways are a Cincinnati coney island thing. They're so gross. 3-ways are spaghetti(!) with chili and a ton of shredded cheese. 5-ways are the same thing but with onions and red beans. Ugh.

Mike, that's great news about the Detroit Boat Club. My mom has some great pictures of that place when she was a kid. I hope they're able to rescue it.

JEN, Thanks for the explination.. Mike you have quite an Iron stomach for that..

Well, what did you think I was taking about? There's nothing boring about eating something strange but tastes awesome. Right Sushi Steve!

Any Sparty fans going to attend the Big Game this weekend? Dustin and myself, the last two Michigan fans, are attending the game. Anyone going, let us know, maybe we could hook up and you could show us what that couch buring thing was all about!!! There is nooo way Michigan can win this time after the dismall outing the Spartys had against the F*ckeyes this past weekend.

Bob - Funny story: when I first moved down here to Cincinnati, a friend invited me to party, but I had no idea it was football themed. When I got there, a ton of people were wearing these big necklaces. I had no idea what they were so I asked this one guy why he was wearing a necklace made of walnuts! Lol. He got all mad and said "They're BUCKEYES!" To which he was met with a completely blank stare on my part. Being a lifelong hockey fan, I had no idea anything about Ohio State or buckeye nuts or anything. Awkward...
