Jen I would have given the same response! why in the hell would one worship a walnut???

Nice job by the way keeping the message board going, your fellow classmates are reading just not responding, keep it up little trooper, you are doing fine.

Congrats Heidi, looks like you had a kick ass day for your big day!!!

10/21/08 08:20 PM #547

Jennifer Schwab

Lol... thanks Bob. It's easy for me to post because I practically live online. I design websites, so I'm basically online 15 or more hours a day.

Kimberly Loch (Boettger)

Heidi, I had hoped to post this prior to your big day, but I guess now is as good a time as any. My hubby and I had this one vow that cracked me up so much that everyone thought I wouldn't make it through the ceremony without laughing out loud in the middle of it. It went like this... "I accept you for the mystery of your unique self." So if that guy of yours is ever aggravating you, just recite that one to yourself. It always seems to lighten the situation when I realize he's actually a bigger weirdo, (the whole mystery of your unique self), than I am. Congratulations!!!
Been AWOL myself here for a bit. We are at that time of year where the animals we raise are getting ready to go to that place to become dinner. Plus, opening day is this Sunday, so I become a hunting widow in a few days. For any of you guys that are avid hunters, I should post some pics of our antelope, big whitetails and mule deer our here. It's pretty amazing how many deer we are allowed to put in the freezer. We had a bear last fall, too.
Jenn-great song choices! I heard "Come on Eileen" today. Cheesy as it is, it's a good song to clean house by.
Last but not least, we actually have a LOT of tumbleweeds out here, I can send you some if you'd like-for effect. Ha Ha Ha

Lisa, happy to oblige. I have fun posting the songs. I think I'd keep posting even if no one paid attention... and honestly I kind of thought no one was. lol.

Jennifer Schwab

Kim, that's a great line to remember even if you're not saying it in vows. :)

Jennifer, I had to laugh when I read your post about 'cornhole'. It must be an Ohio thing because I had never heard of it until earlier today. I am currently working in Cleveland and I picked up a local paper similar to the Metro Times in Detroit (lots of bar adds and what bands are playing locally etc...) and almost every sports bar was advertising 'cornhole tournaments' I didn't have any idea what the f*** they were talking about. I just read your post and now I know. Sounds like lots of fun (yeah right).

Dustin - here's a picture of people playing cornhole. Not nearly as interesting as it sounds:

Hey Bob, there doesn't seem to be a lot of Michigan vs. Michigan State excitement out there. Come on people its UofM vs. MSU week. Don't let last weekend ruin it for you.

I will fire the first salvo...an oldie but a goodie.

How many Michigan State football players does it take to change a light bulb?

Just one, but he gets three credits for it.

Come on Sparty, it should be easy this year...Michigan is terrible

10/21/08 11:00 PM #554

Dustin Maki

Jen, I've seen that before! I just didn't know it was called cornhole. I think they call it something different in Michigan. I see people playing it at tailgate parties. I'm sure the level of fun is directly related to the blood alchohol level.

10/21/08 11:01 PM #555

Jennifer Schwab

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure that by law you have to be drinking to play it.

Heidi -
What a beautiful wedding!! Congrats!!

Lisa Miller (Shedlock)

Hey Bob/Dustin! Go Green!!!!!!!

Q: How many wolverines does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: Two - One to change the bulb and one more to brag how they did it every bit as well as any Ivy League School.

Q: Why do University of Michigan graduates keep their diplomas on their dashboard?

A: So that they can park in handicaped spaces.

Q: What does the average University of Michigan student get on his SAT?

A: Drool

Q: What do you get when you have a basement full of Michigan fans?

A: A Whine Cellar

One foggy night, a Michigan State fan and a Michigan fan were driving the opposite directions on a road near East Lansing. While crossing a narrow bridge, they hit each other head-on, mangling both cars.

The Michigan fan manages to climb out of his car and survey the damage. He looks at his twisted car and says, "Man, I'm lucky to be alive!"

Likewise, the Spartan fan gets out of his car uninjured, he too feeling fortunate to have survived.

The Michigan fan walks over to the Spartan fan and says, "Hey, man, I think this is a sign that we should put away our petty differences and live as friends instead of being rivals."

The Spartan fan thinks for a moment and says, "You know, you're absolutely right! We should be friends. In fact, I'm going to see if something else survived the wreck."

The Spartan fan then pops open his trunk and removes a full, undamaged bottle of Jack Daniel's. He says to the Wolverine fan, "I think this is another sign - we should toast to our newfound friendship." The Wolverine fan agrees and grabs the bottle. After sucking down half of the bottle, the Wolverine fan hands it back to the Spartan fan and says, "Your turn!"

The Spartan fan calmly twists the cap back on the bottle, throws the rest of the bottle over the bridge into the river and says, "Nah, I think I'll just wait for the cops to show up."

SPARTY ON!

How many Bulldogs does it take it take to change a light bulb? I have no idea... we mostly just hung Christmas lights and got hammered.

Whack as many University of Michigan players as you can!!!

GO STATE!!!

10/22/08 09:34 AM #560

good morning all... here's the song of the day. It reminds me both of the 80's and partying at Ferris. It's Steve Miller's "Abracadabra" from his 1982 album Abracadabra.

Enjoy!

So I'm sitting in my basement last night and the door bell rings. I answer the door, and there, on my porch is a guy in an MSU hat. We exchange hellos, I hand him $20, and he runs back to his car.

The pizza was amazing! Go Blue!

Bob or Dustin-
My brother-in-law will be in town for the Redskins-Lions game on sunday. He and his buddies are thinking of trying to get tickets to the Michigan game. Are you guys tailgating? Any clue how much tickets are going for?

I was thinking about all the regional names/customs out there. Until I left Michigan in 1992 I used to play euchre with friends. Since then I have lived all over but can't find anyone (besides ex-Michiganders) that know what the heck I am talking about. In the Army, the only card game people play is spades.

Same thing with pop. Everywhere else people call it soda (or just "Coke" if you are in the South). Don't ask for a Rock-n-Rye or either. Sometimes I can find Vernors.

I stopped ordering iced tea in the South because I end up getting a super saturated solution of tea and sugar. They call it sweet tea...I call it disgusting (or treatment for someone in insulin shock).

If you are in German restaurant, don't ask to sit in the non-smoking section...they don't have it. Also, if you ask for a glass of tap water to drink you will get a funny look.

Speaking of funny looks, try showing someone where you are from by using your hand as a Michigan map. They ask me, "What are you doing?" and look confused until I explain.

Been to Cincinnati and actually like Skyline Chili 5-way...

Chris -
I know exactly what you mean about the whole "pop" thing. We just recently moved to Tennessee and I was at the grocery store and I asked the person ringing us if they had gotten the "pop" - I was asked are you from Michigan or Florida - because those are the only two places that I have heard "pop" used before.

10/22/08 04:19 PM #564

Penny Mylchreest (Mitchell)

And don't forget that down South they don't throw a fit, they "pitch" a fit.

It took forever to catch up on all the posts, you people are funny!

I'm staying here in NB for the week with my parents and sister, today watching the nephews. I won't be at the reunion since I had already planned to be here this month. I would have been here sooner but I just HAD to see the Red Wings play the Hurricanes. It was an awesome game, every time the Wings scored the roar was almost as loud as the home team when they scored! What a blast, so many Wings fans down there. I love living in NC but my heart is always for home and I look forward so much to coming home for the fall colors, cider mill, and seeing my friends. Elizabeth Fox has been lurking, I'm outing you!!!!!

I'll post more, time to get the kids some dinner!

Hey Joey, that reminds me of a movie I saw once. People are at their 20 year reunion and someone asks a guy, "Hey, what have you been doing the past 20 years?" The guy's response was "20 years..."
