Since retiring from Wm Penn in '01, I have been living in a small remote river valley in Southwestern New Mexico. I is 30+ miles to the nearest town of any size (Silver City - 10,000), and to the horror of many young folks, 120 miles to the nearest mall. I have spent a large part of the time since retirement, remodeling the house built in 1945, and volunteering with a number of different organizations (Tucson Folk Festival, Silver City Blues Festival, Pickamania (Silver City Folk/Bluegrass Festival) and the Mimbres Cultural Heritage Site. I am the President of the Grant County Archaeology Society (one of the first and most active in a state filled with local archaeology groups), a member of the Board of the Southwest New Mexico Chapter of the ACLU, as well as a liaison to the State ACLU Board. I am currently Chairing a committee that is planning a Singer/Songwriter competition focusing on the AZ law, SB 1070, and immigration issues. I am also a precinct chair for the Grant County Democratic Party. I sometimes wonder "what happened to retirement?"
