Lorraine Szulwach

Obituary for Lorraine Emma Szulwach 

Lorraine Emma Szulwach, 56, Of Rockport, MA, daughter of John and Helen Szulwach and sister of John Walter Szulwach of Belleville, New Jersey, died at Addison Gilbert Hospital on April 30th of cancer.
 
She was a graduate of Rutgers University with a double major in math and physics, and of Pace University where she received her MBA.
 
Lorraine began her career as a computer programming at Bell Labs at Whippany, New Jersey in 1968. In the early 1970's she transferred to Pacific Telephone in San Francisco. She went on to work for AT&T in New Jersey in the early 80's. Lorraine was a key member of the technical staff She worked on the development and implementation of the AT&T GRAFX system for NYNEX GRAFX. She was also a regional manager for Verizon. Lorraine was last-employed at Para Research of Gloucester where she worked as a product marketing manager as well dividing her time between customer service and computer programming.
 
A talented and artistic weaver, Lorraine established her own weaving company, "Accents and Whispers". She lectured locally and at the Weaver's Guild of Boston and sold her hand-woven scarves, capes etc to shops in Big Sur, California, New Jersey, craft shows and locally to London Ventures of Rockport. Lorraine was recognized nationally. One of her vests won honorable mention at the National Handweavers Guild Convergence in Portland in 1998. Her designs and thematic color schemes reflected her artistic soul. The sea and world around her inspired Lorraine to use nature's colors and its many earth tones. Feeling and seeing nature was found in all her creations.
 
Lorraine was also an active member of the Home Based Business Women's Network. She was an advocate and active participant in promoting women who wanted to start their own home based businesses. Her motivational ideas for independence were inspirational to all who knew her.
 
Lorraine was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, an artist's spirit for enjoying life, and a generous heart filled with love for all her friends. She was a world traveler, a photographer, an animal lover, (especially Marne Coon Cats and Scottie Dogs), and an artist whose medium was oil paints. Lorraine loved fine wines, good food and conversation with her close friends. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind a community of "sisters' whose friendships formed because of her. She was the epitome of courage.
 
A Church Service will be held at St. Joachim's on Monday May 12th at 9:00 o'clock at 9 Broadway Avenue, Rockport. A breakfast will follow for her friends at The Greenery Restaurant, 15 Dock Square, Rockport at 10 o'clock.
