Whoops! Not to be for the Tigers......not that they didn't have the chances, they left tooo many stranded. I believe Newaygo lost on Fri., but it was a close one. Not sure how they've done through the years. Someone from Newaygo will need to verify that. Chargers, I could root for the Chargers, back in the day I liked #55 Junior Seau. Lucky you don't get a chance to watch the Lions much, things got back to normal last Sunday, though they looked good the first quarter. Go STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a good game on Sat. Although, I do root for Michigan a little more often now, my son played footbal at GR Catholic Central with a couple of the players. Obe Ezeh, defence, he had a fumble recovery on Sat. & Mark Hugye on the offensive line. It's good to see kids go on to college and do well.
If the weather is half-way decent tomorrow I'm going to go downtown and see some art! It's the last day. I want to see "Nessie" on the Grand for sure. I perdict that to win.
Paula, I hope you made it to the Art Prize. I went twice and really enjoyed it! Anybody else make it and take in the "Prize"? I thought it was great fun walking all over downtown GR to the different venues. Most pieces I could wrap my mind around,others.....well, let's just say we all have creative differences :) And some minds are just plain scary :) That could include mine I guess....
I loved the gypsy encampment along the river. Did you see it or hear the performers?
I didn't end up making it on Wed. Weather was iffy and I was preparing to leave town for a couple days. Just ran out of time. Maybe some of it will stay for awhile so I can make it downtown soon. I went to be with my sister Cindy during her chemo treatments in Zion, ILL. just north of Chicago. She had a C-scan. Good news, the spots are just faint shadows on the scan. Treatment is working.........Amen to that. It was a nice trip stayed in a resort right on Lake Michigan and it was very nice to be with her, she lives in Greenville, SC. so I don't get to see her much. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, they're working.
Nice picks Mitzi. Thanks for sharing. I'm not going to whine about the cooler temps, and try to enjoy this fall. You know, when I lived away from Michigan, I really missed the seasons and beauty that Michigan has to offer.
Paula, really glad to hear Cindy is making good progress.
We did a bit of the Art Prize as well, just a quick walk around on a Sunday afternoon. Some pretty cool stuff. The gypsy encampment was nice and the performers were really quite good. The crowds were kinda crazy, but mostly understanding. I liked the water wheel in front of the Ford museum, they had a DJ playing music, and people picnicking along the Grand. It had a bit of a 70’s feel to it. I was impressed that most of the art was quality. I had envisioned that there would be a bunch of entries, just because they could. All in all, I liked it.
It has been absolutely beautiful November weather!! My leaves are all raked!!!! A total of 27 hours of raking for the season. Can anybody beat that? Many I have talked to think that there are more leaves this year than in the previous years. It always seems I have plenty.
Good luck and safe hunting to all those rifle hunters out there.
Paula, I hope your sister is still doing well! And, Mitzi, invest in a MONSTER leaf blower or something! WOW that's a lot of raking! How many rakes did you wear out?
Fall isn't necessarily my FAVORITE season...I kinda like the Summer's and all the nice clean water we have...but, the colors, the smells, the rustling leaves, the cool clean air in your lungs...definitely GREAT stuff!!! The snow is pretty and kinda nice for awhile, but I sure wish we could limit it to 2 or 3 months!!!
It's finally cooled off here a little in Florida. Mid 70s in the day and 60s at night. Wish we had leaves changing. That's one of the biggest things I miss about Michigan.
Theresa (my wife) and I are visiting my Mom in Newaygo for Thanksgiving. I don't know if we'll make to Jimmy's, but we'll try.
So I guess I'll need to bring shoes and long pants to Michigan? It's been quite a while since have had my knees or toes covered...
It was a small gathering at Jimmy's on the 27th. Chris, Maureen and Tim, Jeff, Cookie and then I showed up about an hour late. It definitely was a busy weekend for many, so understandably hard to get away from family or Black Friday shopping commitments. As always a really nice time visiting with all. There fortunately will be a "next time" to get together, so I look forward to seeing you all again.
Sorry I couldn't make it, I had the holiday off then it was back to work for the rest of the weekend. It's a bummer working retail at times, but right now I'm thankful to have the job. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Mitzi, if you get close to the Rivertown Mall for holiday shopping let me know. I'll meet you for coffee... Everyone enjoy as you prepare for the Christmas season.
Hey everyone...I see that people still talk here, so thought I would post something too. But, I'm at a loss for words (I know, I know) - so, I'll just say "Hi"!
Hey Kim! May the other missing classmates out there post something here on occasion instead of "Crack"book :) That's a term my co-worker shared with me....she "uses" all the time.
Any snow lovers out there? We're starting late with the accumulation compared to last year. My hope is that it will be as beautiful!
"Crack"book! I like that :-} The ride into work today was beautiful. The closer I got to the lakeshore, there was more snow hanging from the trees, as the sun was coming up. (Not to mention, no school busses slowing me down either!) I even put on a Christmas tie for the occasion. That and the Christmas, sorry, holiday festivities in down town Newaygo tonight. I'm working at making this Christmas (aka holiday) season better than last year.
Snow???? Those WOOD-TV8 "webcams across Michigan" aren't showing very much.....except for those lake superior coastal areas....The deep cold here may drop all the way to freezing this weekend so I check those webcams for my vicarious snow thrill :)
We have had almost 2" of rain this YEAR in California. Here is the severe weather alert for the coming week.

STAYED TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES ON THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER EVENT
I can hardly stand to listen to the weather report anymore, it's so hipped up. Those weather people need to really get a life! A few inches of snow and school is called off? Mrs. Carlson was our bus driver for a time, she would get us to school and back home many of times on the snow covered backroads around Emerald ,Sylvan, Pickeral & Kimball lakes. It was quite hairy at times. But, I'm still here to tell about it. I've got many winter memories from Newaygo. Oh, the snowmobile trails.... they would go for miles, many good times doing that. I'm with Jeff when it comes to winter's beauty it always amazes me.
Oh, and Jeff it is Merry Christmas, let's not have any of that politically correct stuff going on here. Mitzi, what is a "crack" book anyway?
Martha, today we are getting a beautiful snowfall. The greater Grand Rapids area received about 10" of snow Thursday night. Just a covering in Newaygo, and windy.
Jeff, I skipped the downtown Newaygo Christmas Walk. I wasn't being a Scrooge, just got home from work and thought a cup of coffee and my big soft chair sounded better. I heard that there was a decent crowd with some fun activities going on.
Mark, no need to talk about the Newaygo football season. I only attended one game this year (homecoming)....and it wasn't pretty!
Paula, some are addicted to Facebook, that's why my co-worker calls it Crackbook...just being silly.
Oops I spoke way too soon - Blizzard warnings for the northern part of AZ for today and tomorrow so I guess "we" got snow too ;)- may have to drive up to visit it next weekend...or not....
I'm with Martha, I have not worn my 'Michigan Coats' since I have been here. I was tempted with todays 42 degree temperature on the way to work. That is the coolest its been in a looong time.
I think I got rid of my scrapers at the end of the first 'winter'.
