....and then there were those of us who chose to stand on the outside looking in and wait until Monday to hear of the weekends escapades. Plus I spent way to much time with Brent on a couch making out. I truly have no idea the location of any of those party spots......but I know my youngest has become familiar with some of the more recent gathering spots. Hey Paula, when we had our dairy farm, we named it Whiskeywood Farm. My home is just a mile from the river up Whiskeywood Hill.

Anybody or their family members shoot a deer this weekend?

Today, my oldest, Allen turns 25 years old. OH MY GOODNESS!

I don't know about you Mitzi, but I don't feel old enough to have a 25yr old. How can it be? And another thing I know you had much more excitement in HS then what you mentioned. Let's see basketball, I remember Jr year, Debbie Sturgeon pretended to be locked in a cage, I can't remember what school it was at. But, we were away because it was a boy's lockroom. Mrs. Nestle (? on spelling) but you remember her, she just freaked out. That was fun. She (Mrs. Nestle) was way too serious. Anyway, what do the now kids call some of their hangouts? Is your farm right on the river? Do you go over the new bridge to get to your place, I haven't been that way since it was built. You probably go down Whiskeywood Hill right into the river now, right, I'm trying to picture it.

Paula...my daughter won't give up the names of the spots for fear she might reveal to much information. Rotten BRAT!!! and I don't like the fact that she is familiar with these locations. I'll figure it out...Terri might know since she has an in with the school office. Unfortunately I'm not on the river but if you cross the lower bridge and drive up Whiskeywood,(which is now paved and cars travel very fast once they clear the city limit), about a mile my home is on the right with my barn and horses on the left. Thank goodness you girls have good memories...mine seems foggy. But I can't forget Connie Nestle (I think that is the right spelling)what a mouse compared to Stan Thomas. And for me Kimeen Scott was a nightmare....she did not like me at all!!!! But I did have fun playing ball with everyone!!!

I know what you mean about having our kids partying. It just isn't like it was when we were young, a slap on the patty's and don't do it again. Kids now are busted with MIP, without a warning. And you don't even have to be drinking, just being at the party your busted. I'm so happy now Justin is finally 21. I quess it's a good thing, to keep them safe. But, getting them there is hard to get them to understand the trouble they can get into. Until they experience it do they understand and then, the I told you so, seems to speak volumes.

What is everyone's turkey day plans. Besides wearing your roomy pants. Anyone traveling far. My mother continues to host our family get together. I offer to let her off the hook but she loves doing it and probably will continue to do it until she is gone from this earth. So I'm bringing the hot vegetables as requested.

Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here! Since my parents have been gone, we've been going over to Leigh Ann's family's for the day. They have been gracious enough to include us in their family gatherings and it has been very nice over the years. I bring the green bean casserole...doing it in a crock-pot this year, so am hoping it turns out!

WE JUST STAY HOME. WE USED TO GO TO THE LIONS GAME EVERY YEAR, BUT IT KEPT ON GETTING HARDER TO GET GOOD SEATS. THEY USED TO HAVE A FAMILY SECTION FOR FAMILY ONLY WHERE THERE WAS NO DRINKING OR CURSING ALLOWED AND THAT WAS NICE WHEN WE BROUGHT THE KIDS. THEY LOVED IT. WE STAYED AT A HOTEL AND THEN WENT TO BREAKFAST AND THEN TO THE GAME. WE ONCE STAYED AT THE HOTEL WITH THE LIONS AND GOT TO SEE BARRY SANDERS. THEY THOUGHT THAT WAS THE COOLEST THING. (I LOVE THE MEMORIES) HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE!!

Well, we're into December already! Where does the time go? Anyone got any exciting plans for the holidays? Anyone want to share any "traditions" they have? We have one that my dad started the first Christmas after my mom was gone. He had no clue what to buy anyone because she always did the shopping, so he bought a boatload of instant lottery tickets, put them in a bag, and it was passed around with everyone taking one at a time. It was pretty fun, and now that he's gone, we continue with the "tradition". Keeps him with us on Christmas morning.

A tradition for us is our Christmas breakfast...my kids all expect my sausage gravy and biscuits. Last year I mentioned I was thinking of changing the breakfast menu and nearly got fired from my job as mom!!!

Another tradition is hiding a pickle ornament in the tree, it's very tiny, the first to find it Christmas morning gets an extra gift.

HEY EVERYONE MERRY CHRISTMAS-- I FINALLY GOT WHAT I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. "ROCK'EM SOCK'EM ROBOTS"-- MY BABY GIRL GOT THEM FOR ME. HOW DID SHE KNOW?

12/27/08 11:47 AM #102

Mitzi Carlson (Beckman)

Awesome Dan!! Where did she find it. I haven't been in a toy store in a while...they still make them?????

Our traditional pickle game had to change this year. Santa couldn't find the pickle. So Santa came up with a new game in honor of our out going president George W. The game was called...."Who throws a shoe?" So the kids had to look for a shoe (a tiny one) hidden in the tree!

Next year, we hope to have the pickle back.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, my friends.

Terri Nelson (Hubbard)

I just caught up on everyones entries since Thanksgiving! I'm so bad! Work has been crazy busy and so have the holidays...well, two weeks off wasn't too hectic actually. I spent several days in my PJs (WITH NO visitors at all). I love days like that for the most part...just not too many of them in a row! I had breakfast with Mitzi one morning last week and had the BEST time sharing stories back and forth. I think hers were much better than mine this time.(wink) Let me tell you, we are two 'lonely, pathetic' ladies-we go to movies alone, watch "mama mia" over and over, we both work a mean power tool, we shovel our own snow and...oh yeah, we sleep alone every night...okay, that sounds really mean...sorry Mitz...we're not pathetic and we're only lonely sometimes. Fortunately, with all this downtime in our lives, we have had time to become the world's most loved Moms. We do seem to have that in common, I think I can speak for Mitzi when I say that our kids love, adore and honor their Mom's AND like to hang out with us...for good reason. We are very cool! hahaha! But, enough about the two hottest singles in Newaygo...I'm cracking me up...
I celebrated Chistmas with the kids on Christmas Eve. It was great! When 'they' get older and/or have to go to both parents the holidays get broken up a bit. Part of growing up I suppose. But, why do I have to do it with them?! :) Christmas with my grandaughter was the greatest thing in the world! She is 2 & adorable. We had several sleepovers during the holidays...she ALSO thinks I'm cool. WHAT is up with THAT!?!
sorry...this is a message forum, not a novel forum!

Terri Nelson (Hubbard)

Mitzi, I hope you saw the humor in my adding YOU to my 'novel'. You know I love you, and I don't think you're pathetic at all!! And next time we get together, I'm not telling Kala about it. What a goofball!!! Poor Mikal was scarred forever, I'm sure!
Kimba! What are you doing with all your free time????!
And Paula, I went to Grandville only ONCE over the shopping season and it was a quick trip. But, I really really want to get together soon.

01/07/09 03:07 PM #106

Martha Bisel (Rudnick)

Hmmmm .....and we all thought Kimba was the big writer in the crowd.....:)

01/08/09 05:19 AM #107

Mitzi Carlson (Beckman)

Terri.....You wouldn't have included me in the novel if you didn't think I would see the humor in it. The story line is nothing to be ashamed of. As for Kala.... well Mikal has developed a tick.....just kidding! Kala has always felt comfortable stopping in and I love it!

I'm still here, but have been pre-occupied with keeping my Facebook page up...I'm talking with Brigette, Seger, Barb Cook, Reen, etc. Why don't some more of you reading this sign up too?

Anyway, only $2.00 on the lottery tickets this Christmas. But, my son cleaned up with $18.

Not doing much with my free time other than enjoying it. I know it can't last forever....but, I like staying home in the winter! Especially this winter.

Hope you all are keeping warm. I hear it is a doozy of a winter in Newaygo this year!

My mom is coming down here in a couple weeks for some sun and fun. I think she'll appreciate the time away from the great white north.

:)

Hey to all!

I am w/ Kim aka Tootsie as I am on Facebook keeping up more than I check this website (shame on me after all the work Terri puts into it!). Winter sucks in Mich - period. I am ready for nice weather to get outside and do something w/ my fat ass besides sit on it! I was reading some of the messages posted and laughed. Don't feel bad for being single - sometimes it's nice to have the WHOLE bed to yourself and not having to get bugged about sex when there is so much else on your mind!! Believe me, I had my share in the party days and I was well accquainted w/ all the party spots! Terri got them all correct!! Now I can't stay up past midnight or drink shots w/o puking or drink but a few Mike's Hard Lemonades maybe once every 2 weeks!! But that's ok, there are more important things in life - I wished I knew that back then! Can we put me in the yearbook as 1978's Wild Child?

Paula Hanlon (Veneklase)

With this slightly warmer weather this weekend, I think I'll get rid of cabin fever with a trip to the mall. I've got some gift cards to use.... I've got a single weekend as my husband is on a retreat this weekend... the bed all to myself, though I work 3rd's so actually sharing a bed with my husband would be nice for a change. I guess that's it with a Michigan winter is doing something different for a change to get ya through it. But, if we're going to have snow now is better then March...My son's swim meets have kept some of the winter blahs away so that's been keeping us busy. Anyway, how are others keeping them (the blahs) at bay? Anyone doing any traveling to some exotic island or anything? Please share and make us all jealous...... for me the mall and Oakland Univ. in Rochester Hills, MI are the extent of my traveling this year..... Hope St.Valentine's Day can shower a little love on you all......

Paula Hanlon (Veneklase)

Well, I think the mall might of been a good idea, since the rest of GR thought so too!!! It was busy there today... What a great Feb. thaw day... Hope all were able to enjoy it.
