Happy New Year's Eve all!  That little guy in my profile picture, grandson Toby, now 11, has been out swinging his new Christmas clubs, between CNY rains & on green grass, all week.  Looking for some 2024 sunshine.....  Enjoy life and be the light! 😎

I am sad to report that Jill Fraley died.  She died at her daughter Jenny Shaw's home in Connecticut on New Year's Day.

Sad to hear that Coach Dick Bader has passed away.
He was so dedicated to kids his whole life.
After high school I worked two summers at the Town of Cicero Parks for him.
All he ever wanted was for kids to have guidance and a happy life growing up.

RIP Coach Bader!

I saw Coach Bader's obituary on Syracuse.com. He definately had a lot of serious accomplishments throughout his career. He, along with our other athletic coaches Herlosky & Wahinger were all top level.
I remember telling Coach B. once that he looked like Vic Morrow from the TV show Combat. Pretty sure he took it as a complliment.

It has come to my attention that Gary F. Sotherdon (listed as Southerdon on this website) passed away in 1997 in Alaska.  The article I found this in was discussing the Alaska Triangle, an area where numerous planes have disappeared since the 1970s.  "Another puzzling case involves Gary Frank Sotherden, a 25-year-old New Yorker who disappeared during a hunting trip in the Alaskan wilderness in the mid-1970s. In 1997, a human skull found along the Porcupine River was later identified as Sotherden's through DNA analysis in 2022. US Army investigators concluded he likely died in an encounter with a bear."   Gary lived a few doors up from me in Clay NY, and I remember him as a great friend in my childhood.

Oh my.   I definately knew Gary Sotherden as well.  I'm sure he and his family occasionally went to Clay Lutheran Church.  Wow, what a story.

Donald Guido

As some of you may remember, Lou Guido was a long time teacher and coach at Cicero High School as well as several other schools in the North Syracuse School District.

Back in 1985, after my father passed away mid-semester, Coach Paul Wilson created the Louis Guido Scholarship in his memory. The scholarship provided funds to a male and female graduating senior from Cicero High School (later Cicero-North Syracuse High School) intending to study for a career in physical education and/or other health related fields.

Unbeknownst to his family, the funding stream that supported the scholarship had been removed and the scholarship is in danger of disappearing. Currently my siblings and I are funding the scholarship. We are asking for assistance in keeping it going. To that end, my sister Carol has started a Go-Fund-Me page for donations.

If you are willing to help current CNS students with an interest in Physical Education, please consider donating.  The link is: https://www.gofundme.com/keep-louis-guidos-scholarship-alive

Thanks!

Please start thinking about what would be a good way to celebrate our 55th Reunion!

Banquet, picnic, cocktail reception, concert venue and or all of the above!

Any ideas for venue sites? Time of year?

let's think real hard!. I know it hurts, but just try!

will miss Borio's!!

John,
I would love to attend another class reunion. There's a place in Brewerton on the river The Pier that might be considered for a reunion. I've attended events there. Really nice.

Hey John and all you Schmo of 70s!
I hope everyone is choosing to enjoy and make the best of life in every moment.  I'm up for a 55th and, although a picnic theme sounds great, the weather could make it awash.  An reserved INSIDE venue would best assure a great gathering.  Barado's On the Water @ Bradbury's Marina, 57 Bradbuty Rd, Brewerton has great food and both inside & outside dining.  Partially covered, Barado's ihas an open air, Jimmy Buffett persona. There is also The Waterfront Tavern in Breweton  😎

Looking forward to our 55th reunion, a couple of thoughts came to mind.  I think that 916 Riverside (Route 37 in Central Square) has become a good venue for events like this.  If scheduling around some other activities around Syracuse is something to consider, the New York State Blues Festival takes place  June 12–14 (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) at Chevy Court in the New York State Fairgrounds and, the Syracuse Nationals auto show is July 18 - July 20 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)

We had our sons rehearsal dinner at the Pier. They put on a great dinner and drink special and the atmosphere inside and out was fabulous. The staff and the owner were very attentive to our requests. I highly recommend. Jim

Happy Thanksgiving to you John and all you Schmo of 70 people.  It still seems weird attending 8th & 9th grade grandchildren functions at what was our high school for 3 or 4 years, but is currently the junior high - always a busy place.  πŸ˜Ž
