John gave the gift of friendship. In high school I double dated with him and appreciated his sense of humor and his wit. He was a friend. I'm sad to learn that he has died.
I was also a member of that team. John was a good runner and a good guy. If my memory serves me correctly, he was cocaptain of that team.
. I am sorry to learn of his passing. He joins one other member of that team, that I am aware of who has departed this life, Jim Schuth, a friend of mine from grammar school days. He was another good runner and a good guy.
John Echert and Chip Braun, two members of our class taken from us too soon. I have many happy memories of both of them, and consider myself fortunate to have forged friendships with them during HS.
John was my best friend in high school. We ran with Jim schuth, Bill and Trevor sophomore year. John and I were on the undefeated Indoor Track Team with John Dawson and all the other fellas that made up the team. I new John since 6th. grade. We both graduated from Illinois State in education in 1968 and 1969. We even taught in Joliet together while he worked on his Masters. John was a great friend and a wonderful guy. I think of him often.
John was a good pal. A great runner, he was on the team that took 4th in state in cross country senior year. He attended Illinois Normal and subsequent to graduation, John married his college sweetheart. John was committed to a number of causes including civil rights. He took time away from school to march at Selma, AL. John and his wife moved to Georgia, had two daughters and worked in the local educational system. John learned to fly and loved flying ultralights. He on the right coast and I on the left, we didn’t see each other often over the years but kept in touch at least annually. I still miss my friend.
