I still think about you Susan. And I think about your sister. So young -- and I was too young to even understand how tragic it was. I remember your mom, too -- think her name was Nettie. And I wonder how hard it must have been for her...

Sue was smart, respected, sensitive and compassionate. She had a circle of friends she enjoyed. We had lockers near each other, so we saw each other frequently. She seemed pretty focused on being a good student. The single most prominent memory I have of Susan was the day that she walked into Honor Study Hall shocked and close to tears as she shared the alarming news that President Kennedy had been shot.

Susan had a lot to offer the world and is missed.

Carole -- when I saw your comment I realized that Susan and I had gone to a huge rally for JFK in the fall of 1960 when were freshmen and the race was hot. His motorcade passed us on the Eisenhower Expy and he waved through the window and we were thoroughly smitten. Susan and I tried our hands at HS humor and tried to become the HS columnists for the Oak Leaves -- but I think we were a little weird for those guys. She was a great friend and I miss her.

Steve,

Thanks for filling me in about how you knew Sue. I was particularly interested in hearing about the rally you both attended. You both were much more politically involved at a young age than I was. I'm glad that you knew her well. She was a neat young worman and is missed.

Sue was always sharing a smile with a kind word for everyone. I enjoyed seeing her in the halls & we shared the same lunch period. I recall being a little involved with the United World Federalists while at OPRF & think Sue was also politically active with that group. Esperanto still hasn't received the attention we thought it should to bring the peoples of the world together. Peace to u now Susan.

Hi Bill,

I remember you well from Horace Mann days.

My information on Sue's passing is old and probably suspect. I had been under the impression that she died accidentally while an undergrad at UW, but Charlotte Astor looked up info from the OPRF 10th reunion that indicated that she had graduated from law school and was working for a law firm in Chicago.

I'm fairly certain that Sue's older sister (in the same class as my older sister - four years ahead of us) died very young, too -- so this just must have been very tragic for her folks to lose both girls.

If anyone has any other information please share.

I knew Susie very well. She was funny and kind. We were good friends in high shcool, but somehow when we went off to different colleges we lost touch. When I heard about the tragedy of her death, I got very present that I had lost something valuable.  She was the first person my age that I know who had passed away. I attened her funeral. May her memory be a blessing.
