Steve Clarfelt

I have had the good fortune of being the President of the Detroit Baseball Society since 2010. Each year we celebrate during winter’s bleaker days the vigor of Tigers baseball and, on the eve of spring training’s start in Lakeland, Fla. It was a favorite evening for the Tigers brass Dave Dombroski and Al Avila who attended each year. We honored several players with the 10th Man & Legend award. We honored Jahmai Jones, Tyler Holton, Lance Parrish, Niko Goodrum, John Hicks, Andrew Romine, Rajai Davis, Mickey Stanley, Don Kelly, Quintin Berry.
I still love the Red Wings, but we have not had much to celebrate for the last decade. I have been lucky enough to drink from the Stanley Cup a few times at Joey Kocur house and in 1994 when Mike Hartman, who I coached in baseball, won the cup with the N.Y. Rangers.
I have been married twice and luck enough to be introduced by a friend to my current wife Desiree Clarfelt who lived in the Philippines. After proposing to her in front of her family in April 2022 in the Philippines and returned in Sept of 2022. After finally getting her visa approved, we got married April 13th of 2024.
I am enjoying life with Jasten, our 14-year-old daughter who is very athletic and loves fastpitch softball. After playing less than a year, she played on a 14U team when she was 13 and bats leadoff. I feel blessed to have them in my life and keep me busy and active. I also have a dog Max (part boxer) who is as smart as they come. Since arriving in Michigan, we have traveled to Florida twice and California twice as we will take a cruise from Long beach Calif. to Catalina Island and Ensenada Mexico in August this year. We plan on visiting the Philippines next year as well.

After graduating from O.P.H.S. I went onto OCC in Farmington Hills campus and graduated with my associate degree. I continued college at Oakland University and received a B.A. in Sociology while working for a Capri leasing (fun driving every type of car). Also worked part-time at Children’s Village in Waterford.
Instead of staying in my field of sociology, I was offered a job at Highland Superstores and quickly moved up the ranks from an assistant manager in 1 year to the date in Grand Rapids MI. to a store manager shortly afterwards. I was there from 1986 till 1993 when they went out of business. After Highland I was contacted by Montgomery Ward and hired as an operations manager in Kalamazoo for a year. After a year I was promoted to store manager Green Bay WI. (very cold there). A year later I transferred to Kalamazoo and then Southfield. I stayed with Wards until 1998.
I went onto run 2 Burlington Coat Factory stores and in April of 2000 till July of 2011 found my dream job of running 12 AT&T stores as a General Manager for Cellular Advantage, an authorized dealer in Chicago and Michigan. They ended up selling the company and I was in the right place at the right time and referred to work for the ‘New” Cricket Wireless a subsidiary of AT&T. Our company has grown from 1 store to now 7 and I am the vice president and partner of 2 of our locations. I have been there since 2014 until today.
