Pat for many years was a member of the "Friends in Christ," a small group of Catholic men who together attended grammar school at St. Cyril's or high school at Bishop O'Dowd. The group included from the O’Dowd class of '60 John Heagerty, Mitch Capor, John Jurich, and Pat Burke; from the O’Dowd class of ‘61 Danny Guettinger; and from the Saint Cyril’s class of ‘57 John O’Shaughnessy. We have gotten together twice a year for a mountain or seaside retreat to renew longstanding friendships by enjoying the best of food and drink, updating the adventures of children and grandchildren, arguing politics, and hyperbolizing the past.
Pat sadly died this past spring on the eve of a retreat while playing golf with John O'Shaughnessy. He died walking off the eighteenth green after pitching in for a birdie at the last hole. I remember Pat for his exuberant hugs, deep bass voice, conservative convictions, and love of family and golf. Pat was preceded in death by our high school classmates, Jim Rogers and Mike Donaldson. All of these men will be much missed by their fellow friends.
