Pat Serpa died from a heart attack. Pat's sister sent word. There was a private family Mass but no other services.
Pat lived mostly in Southern California, including Arcadia, for many years. Pat is survived by a sister, cousins, nieces and nephews. After 17 years in the Carmelite Monastery, she received permission to leave the Carmelites.
Pat worked at a park visitor's center in or near San Diego and was married for a time.
Pat became a middle school teacher of English grammar and literature. She also taught young people learning English as a second language (ESL).
Pat was great with languages. She traveled in Portugal, France, and, for researching a book she was writing, she traveled to Norway's Lofoten, Archipelago. She hadn't finished the book when she passed away.
Pat was an avid reader; mysteries, history and research were favorites.
Pat was very intelligent, funny, and a great writer. She did beautiful hand-work, namely embroidery and crochet.
