Football Posted Monday, September 28, 2009 01:25 PM I remember my senior year, it was a home game, and I am not sure who the opponents were. We had them on their own 40 yard line. They set up to punt. One of their guys missed his blocking assignment and I got through. It was one of those ESPN moments, I was fully extended, flying through the air; I got a hand on the ball and blocked the punt. There was a mad scramble for the ball and a pile up developed. I remember laying there all twisted and turned, thinking to myself - Man I Done GOOD! Everyone is going to be proud of ME ! We un-pilled. We had the ball. I slow jogged to the side line (something you do so everyone can see you). The announcement came over the speakers "And that was all possible by the fantastic blocked punt by Philip Mumbach."

RE: Football Posted Monday, October 5, 2009 02:56 PM Does anyone remember our wonderful senior year, catching and crating 20,000 chickens for the Maier's? It was a very long time before I ate chicken again. |

RE: Football Posted Tuesday, October 6, 2009 09:34 AM Speaking of Chis M. do you remember when we were Juniors and he decided he wasn't going to wash his practice uniform all year? It was pretty disgusting and no one would get near him in the locker room. I felt sorry for the people who had to block him at practice. He finally had to wash it to turn it in after the season and it was a lost cause. |

RE: Football Posted Monday, October 12, 2009 04:01 PM I may be wrong here, but I remember we called the two-man blocking sled TANK and the full-line blocking sled CELILIA. |

RE: Football Posted Tuesday, October 13, 2009 07:33 PM I am thinking there MUST have been some psycho-sexual thang going on. But a tank has a long ridged tube pointing the way........no that's not it. Maybe if we called her the Penguin it would been more appropriate.Do you remember the first Blue's Brothers movie, when Elroy took Jake to see The Penguin. I started dying laughing when they got to the school. I could see the joke playing out. Zola got pissed. She kept saying What? What? And then when this Nun comes floating across the room....Zola asked, Is that what you called them? Damn, I wish I had been clever enough to see the penguin in them. Maybe I could have handled Sister Maurice better.

RE: Football Posted Sunday, October 18, 2009 04:44 PM Please remember that we had to earn all our money (much like the PEP squad) to do anything in cheerleading...unlike football players! (Discrimination is what it would be called today.) We had our megaphones repainted by Mr. Rao after we bought them from one of the old cheerleaders that did not need it anymore. Probably from selling eggs door to door, you see guys we had Easter memories also! One of my football highlights was, (don't know who it was that we were playing, probably Kelly) we were all lined up on the edge of the field all prim and proper. When into one play the guys ended up on our side. One player could not stop himself and literally stuck his foot in my megaphone. He stood there shaking his foot trying to get this megaphone off like he has something wet stuck to the bottom of his shoe. Now this was an insult of all insults...besides I did not have a former cheerleader to buy another one from. I was so shocked that I just stood there (I know that is hard to believe). While I was trying to get my chin off the field, Sara Todora grabbed that flapping megaphone by the handle and chased after that poor boy just a letting him know how the cow ate the cabbage. Loretta and I still laugh about that incident! It really was funny! Just like all good Catholic school kids, I got some freezer tape, taped it back and used it the rest of my high school years, from a distance it was hard to tell. I still have it today. |
