I did work with Herman Cease after graduation cleaing theatures at 5:00 am. I lost my taste for soda and popcorn after that. Then I went to Illinois State University for a BS degree in Horticulture. There I was introduced to keg parties, but I still did my studies. I decided I still liked learning so I went to University of Illinois for MS in Horticulture. I met someone there, but still liked school apparently (or was avoiding the real world) and stayed to do a PhD. My time there was colorful to say the least. I just fell in love with the town of Champaign-Urbana. I was taking a long time to finish the degree and money was running out so I did a post-doctorate with the USDA-ARS and Cotton Inc. (cue: the fabric of our lives). However when I got there I realized I was in the crummy desert part. After 2.5 years and some publications I qualified to transfer to College Station, TX (still with the gov). This town is so much like Champaign, but way hotter and people speak more 'southernly'. I was named the curator of the cotton germplasm which is the worlds largest. It is the perfect ending to all the horticulture degrees. However loved ones still have not joined me so I'm living single.
As we say down here, "howdy, and gig'em Aggies".
By the way I enjoyed the reunion but hope people stay in touch regularly and not wait ten years to renew friendships.
Running cross country through woods and subdivisions. What other sport can you regularly practice and compete with the girls?
Track was also fun, but hanging out in the gyms until the 6:00 bus was also fun. I remembered a teammate who never washed his track uniform and I put it on the face of Brian Bushemi once while he was doing lats in the weight room.
