Lawrence Dobbins Jr.

When I left Oak Ridge, I attended Valencia Junior College (later changed to Community College). It was on the Mid Florida Tech grounds and mainly in the portable buildings. Got an AA degree in Art but could not get into the Art field anywhere. Went back to being an electricians helper. Then went into retail and worked at ZAYRE Departement store at Grand Ave and Orange Ave.
Then went to work for King Car Truck Rental at Herndon Ave and Colonial Dr, working part time. Part time consisted of 50 to 70 hours a week!! Then went back to ZAYRE working part time in the security department. Then got hired by Montgomery Ward in their security departement. It was there I got interested in Law Enforcement and became a part time Reserve Officer For Edgewood. Yes, I then became a full time Edgewood Eddie COP as the CBers called us. I got married. We got a new chief. He did not like me and I did not like him. Because of him, I left Edgewood and went to work for my father-in-law. I later learned that the chief I did not like was a real dirtbag and tried shaking down some of the business men in town like he must have done when he was a New York City Cop.
I went to work for the Florida Public Service Comission as a a law enforcement officer regulation the trucking industry. Later we were transfered to the Department of Transportation and continued to enforce weight and safety regulations on the trucking and bussing industry. During that time I started working part time For the Florida Safety Council. I left Law Enforcement and worked several different jobs before working full time for the Safety Council.
In 2010 I was forced into semi retirement and that is my Current Position! LOL
I got married in 1977 and divorced in 2003. I have 3 GREAT kids and am now a GRANDFATHER!!

I remember that if you were new to the school you were kind of an out cast. My dad was in the service and was transefered to Orlando in 1965. Not many people would talk to me or have much to do with me.
I remember being in history class and this guy walked up and said to me do you have a car? I said yes. He then said to me, then your driving me home! We became good friends after that. His other friends accepted me as well. We were know as the FEARSOME FOURSOME after the pro football players. The guy that told me I was taking him home was David Adams. His two friend Ronny McDeed and Weasley Sprouse rounded out our group. From 1965 to 1967 I made a few more friends but most of the students there seemed to act like if you had not grown up with them, they wanted nothing to do with you.
I was in DECA during my last year at Oak Ridge and that is how I became an electrician's helper. I remember John Malarky from the School Newspaper came and took a picture of me at work. That picture is in the yearbook for 1967.
