I am so sorry to hear of this sad news! But I am equally happy that I got to see and visit with Richard at our reunion in August. He seemed his same funny self and even made me laugh.
Cancer is a horrible disease, I know as my husband has just been diagnosed with it last month. A friend of mine sent this to me and I find appropriate to post it here in memory of Richard:
WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO..........
It cannot cripple Love
It cannot shatter Hope
It cannot corrode Faith
It cannot destroy Peace
... It cannot suppress Memories
It cannot kill Friendship
It cannot silence Courage
It cannot invade the Soul
It cannot steal eternal Life
It cannot conquer the Spirit......

Connie Harmon Hightower,Barbara Kimmel Lang, and I were together when we got the news about Richard. We are shocked and saddened. There is no one who had a better personality, more zest for life, or the ability to make you feel comfortable and special. Our hearts and prayers are with his wife and family. We love you Richard...you will truly be missed. Teri Freeman Tomlinson

Loosing one of your best friends who you have known for over 50 years is difficult. I have fond memories of Richard from Yearbook and sneaking off campus with him and Carl Dragsted. We all got three licks for that one but now it all seems worth it. There are certain people that can't be replaced because they are unique. Richard will be missed and fondly remembered.

I can't believe our dear friend Richard is gone, but we are so glad we were able to visit with him on our last trip to Florida. What a special and dear friend he was to Greg and I and we truly loved and will surely miss him. Greg will miss the golfing outings that they shared together. Debbie our thoughts and prayers are with you as always. It is going to be hard going to FL and not being able to see him. Richard was always the life of any party, it was his super personality that kept things going. This cancer thing has taken away so many of our family and friends way to soon and now you my friend are also gone. We will miss you so very much.

I feel like I immediately aged a thousand years, when I heard about The Huddle. Richard was one of the finest gentlemen that I have ever had the priveledge of knowing. When I moved to Orlando/ORHS about 48 years ago, he was one of the first people with who I developed a friendship. We were in Key Club together; I remember the golf outings during Yearbook, when we were suppose to be selling ads (as John Watson also did, but I didn't get caught); and we were team mates on the basketball team (we drove Bobby Fats, a.k.a. Coach Rainey crazy). He is a very important part of my life and I am going to miss him. Richard, my Friend, I wish you fair skies, excess altitude and airspeed and gentle warm breezes on your journey.

Sad day when I heard about Richard. He was such an important part of my young adult memories as well as my sister Sherry . Rich and I roamed the Orlando streets in his little blue car . He was a great loyal buddy. - Billy Freeman & Sherry Freeman

I saw Richard at the reunion after all the years since our graduation. Across the room he stood with a big smile. He had changed very little since 1967. I enjoyed talking with him about high school and our families. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We will always remember that great smile.
