My relentless pursuit of absolutely the most energy efficient housing possible, is based on principles taught by Mrs. Oakley in Geometry Class. A sphere is the shape that has the greatest interior space with the least surface area, and a building's energy consumption both winter and summer is directly related to the total exposed area of the roof and walls to the elements. (yawn...). As a geodesic dome is constructed with triangles, it is also the strongest building. I have built 500 domes since 1982, including an ice core drilling research station 900 miles from the north pole in Northern Greenland for Copenhagen University; and the Tactile Dome for the new Exploratorium Museum on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. In 2014 I restored the only dome home owned by the inventor of the geodesic dome, Buckminster Fuller, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. My brush with fame, I built a sun cabana for soap opera and music entertainer Ricky Martin on the roof of his mansion on Hibiscus Island in South Beach, Miami. I have domes at the Connecticut Yankee Nuclear Plant; the State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY); Easthampton, NJ Elementary School; 3 domes for the Calgary Winter Olympics, and literally hundreds of domes for private residences mostly in the United States; domes also in Kuwait, Brazil, Canada, Norway and Hong Kong. My personal residence is a dome horse ranch on the Mississippi River in Minnesota with 10 dome buildings.
