Stephen Gregory Mitchell of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Saturday, April 24, at the age of 55.

Steve was born in Panama City on Dec. 27, 1954. An optician by trade, he worked at Eye Design Optical for more than 20 years.

He loved playing music and was an accomplished musician. "The Mini-Brutes," "Sleepless Nights," "PassionWorks" and the "Willies" were a few of the many bands he played in.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Davis Mitchell Sr. and Jean Colvin Mitchell; and his brother, John Davis Mitchell Jr.

He is survived locally by his daughter, Lela Breyana Mitchell; sister, Suzanne Mitchell LaBarbera; former wife, Brenda Boyce Mitchell; nephew, Alexander Mitchell LaBarbera; niece, Kristen Covey; aunt, Shirley Colvin of Hosford, Fla.; uncle, Hubert Mitchell of Marianna, Fla.; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
