Carla Sue Reid (Carla Morris) found eternal peace on Thursday evening, Dec. 8, 2016, in Panama City, Florida.
Carla was born in Panama City on July 9, 1954, to Jack and Lucile Morris and two older brothers, Terry and Jerry. Raised in the Cove in Panama City, she was a proud alumna of Bay High School. After high school, Carla moved to the Atlanta area where she studied at Kennesaw State and the University of Georgia (despite being a lifelong Gator fan), graduating with a bachelor's degree in accounting. After college, Carla moved to Memphis for work where she met Michael Reid, the love of her life. This is where the great journey of her life began. After a few years in Memphis, they moved back to Panama City where she went on to work in the title insurance industry for more than 25 years. Through her work, she made numerous lifelong friends and became a valuable member of the title insurance industry in Bay County. She was a member of St. Andrew's Baptist Church of Panama City for more than 30 years.
Her life was made full by her family and friends. She was a sister, a daughter, a mother, a wife, and a grandmother. She was the best at all of these things. She witnessed both of her sons get married and became a grandmother, which along with her own marriage, were the proudest moments of her life. She is survived by her husband, Michael Reid, who has spent the last 10 years as her unwavering caregiver. She is also survived by their two sons - Jack (Emily) and Matthew (Brandi). She is also survived by her granddaughter, Avery Noelle Reid, who will forever feel Carla's love. Other beloved family members include her brothers Terry Morris (Connie) and Jerry Morris (Elizabeth), nieces Marlene and Rebecca, and honorary grandbabies Garrison and John Andrew. This list of family never ends for her, as she considered everyone her family.
Carla's family is incredibly proud of the fight she put up during the last 10 years, battling illness after illness. She was a warrior and she was our rock, but we know that she is whole again with the Lord and dancing with joy that she is free of pain. Carla was also the most giving person in our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to a local church or charity providing for those in need at Christmas time. This will be a tradition the family will begin and continue to do each year.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Dr. Sidney Daffin and staff of Panama City for their years of care for Carla. Their commitment and love for her and our family has touched our lives in a way we can never repay.
Services will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home at 214 Airport Road in Panama City at 1 p.m. CST on Monday, Dec. 12. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. Monday. Dr. Michael Claunch and Pastor Neil Hickem will preside over the ceremony.
