Stephen C. Myers

DR. STEPHEN MYERS' OBITUARY

Dr. Stephen Carlton Myers went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 18, 2021.

He was born on July 6, 1954 to Ann and A.F. “Sonny” Myers.

At the age of 5, he knew what he wanted to do for his occupation after a visit to the family dentist. Dr. Myers would later establish the first dental practice in Panama City Beach in 1981 after graduating from Gulf Coast Community College, the University of Florida as a chemistry major, and the University of Florida College of Dentistry. He loved his patients and served them until he retired in February 2018 as a result of his ALS diagnosis. He considered his employees his family and enjoyed their dear friendship through the years and after retirement.

Dr. Myers was active in the dental community as a member of the Bay County Dental Society, Florida and American Dental Associations, L. D. Pankey Institute Board of Directors, the Florida and American Academy of Dental Practice Management, as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, and as a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He served Gulf Coast State College on the Dental Advisory Committee and as an adjunct faculty member.

He was also involved in the community serving as a Bay Medical Center Hospice Board of Director, Gulf Coast State College Trustee, Panama City Beach Little League coach and then President, and member of the First Baptist Church where he loved serving with the children’s choir. His ALS diagnosis did not dampen his spirits. He loved Gulf Coast State College athletics and spoke to many groups on attitude and overcoming obstacles. He was a rare combination - a dreamer, yet exceedingly practical, diligent, and a doer in all respects. He balanced his limitless energy and work ethic with a desire to prioritize his relationships with Jesus Christ, his family, and his friends above all else. He loved to build, oil paint, boat, create, and, most of all, spend time with his family.

Dr. Myers is survived by Mary Jo Myers, his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, his sons Stephen M. Myers and his wife Rachel and their son Jack, Jordan Myers and his wife Beverly and their children Lanning and Grant. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Frasier (Deborah), Jeanne Floyd, Beth Rains (Jim), and Cliff (Myra) and sisters-in-law Kathy Bethea (Buddy) and Susanne Mezzanotte many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A private, family ceremony was held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
