Russell (Rusty) Scott Ward of Bay Point, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Aug. 5, 2013, at the age of 59 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Rusty loved boating, fishing, golfing and entertaining his many friends. He was born in Panama City on Dec. 14, 1953, and remained here most of his life. He worked in the oil business in Oklahoma where he met many dear friends with whom he has remained close. After returning to Panama City, he became a registered land surveyor and operated his own business, Ward Land Surveying Company.

Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Russell Ward.

His survivors include his mother, Jackie Kendrick; his sister, Pam Ramirez; his niece, Jordan Ramirez; and his two nephews, Darin Ramirez and Pearce Dean.

Special thanks to his many friends who helped him through this difficult time, especially Mike Salsman and Lindsay Adams, Jerry Cunningham Rathner, Steve and Sharon Slaughter, Matt and Kitty Hodges, Brenda Nunnery and Susan Griffin. Thanks also to Covenant Hospice for their care of Rusty and his family during his final days. Rusty will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
