Molly Lowe (Davis)

Gang:

Do either of these names sound familiar to anyone in PHS-land?

Robert G. Brandon
George Joseph Laliberte

Fred and I visited a Navy Memorial in Long Beach that had a plaque with the names of 74 men who went down with DD754 Frank Evans on 6/3/1969 and the two men listed above were from Paramount, CA.

This is the info I found on Wickipedia about the incident:

On 3 June 1969, while operating with the Royal Australian Navy between Saigon and Spratly Island, Evans was operating in company with the Australian aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne. At flying stations, Melbourne signalled Evans, which was to port of the carrier, to take up the rescue destroyer position. The logical movement would be to make a turn to port and describe a circle taking up station on the carrier's port quarter. Inexplicably, instead of turning to port, Evans turned to starboard, cutting across Melbourne's bow and was cut in half in the ensuing collision. Her bow section sank instantly, taking 74 of her crew down with it. At the time of the collision Evans's captain was asleep. The officer of the deck (a junior officer who was not qualified to stand watch, having failed at his previous board) failed to notify him when he executed the station change as required by the Commanding Officer's standing orders. Evans was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 July 1969. The stern section was sunk as a target in Subic Bay on 10 October 1969.

Here is a website devoted to DD754:

Just wondered if anyone knew these fellas since the timing would probably put them near our age.

Molly,
I went back thru our high school yearbooks and could not find anything on either guy. I hope that someone out there might know who they are.

Good Morning Lynne,

Hadn't heard from you in a few days so I thought I would check out the forum here. Glad to see you are here. I see you have planned the trip for next month. Do remember to keep your frustration level low because somedays might be too much for your mom.

Got hubby home from the hospital. This has been a long week driving back and forth to Idaho Falls. Wish it was closer to you. We had snow one day driving not one of my favorites to drive in. Luckily not too much snow.

Well, just checking in to see if all was ok. Hello to all you other Pirates out there too.

Love ya,
Dorothy

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Hello Everyone!

Dorothy, I hope everything works out ok with your husband. You both are in our thoughts and prayers.

Lynne, yes I came up for air. Seriously these have been extremely long, long days. To top that off, as soon as i get home, the little 87 year old friend across the street, always motions for me to come visit and talk to her. She sits in her garage daily watching the cars go back and forth and just watches. Her husband passed away last December, she is very lonely. I try to call her and sit with her as much as I can. Once I am with her, she wants me there for a long time. I've been communicating with Roland's aunt in Carmel, she is not doing well and is lonely too. I love these two wonderful ladies dearly so the time that I can give them, the moments that I can give them, and the kindness that I can give them is with love and sincerity. I now that someday, we will all be in their shoes. So I say to you my classmates, if you know of someone who is alone, take just one moment of your time, talk to them, smile to them and listen to them. What you get back in return, is knowing that somehow you filled that little gap in their lives, you took the time for someone who needed someone. It's a great feeling - try it.

Oh I am so sentimental, I just love people! I should have continued the psychology classes in college and changed my major to become a psychologist.

Tom's Farm sounds wonderful to me. I am glad it is on a Saturday - November 22. Love that place! Go there a lot.

Directions: 91 Freeway to 15 Freeway(South)towards San Diego - exit Temescal in Corona
Tom's Farms

23900 Temescal Canyon Rd
Corona, CA

Lynne count me in! Is this just for the ladies or can the gentlemen come too? One thing pretty cool there, on Saturdays a lot of people showcase their Harley's. (some beauties). Since it will be close to Christmas, there will be lots of vendors outdoors selling items as well as in the shops. You can even venture to the wine and cheese tasting, you can purchase just about anything you want. There is a candy store, veggie/fruit department. Lynne, there is a Mexican Restaurant as well as the hamburger stand with the great onion rings. Let's just say you sure won't starve to death. Oh, I almost forgot, there is a huge pond with ducks. At times there are performers singing (lots of western music).

Everyone, have a wonderful weekend and thanks for taking the time to keep in touch!

Your friend always,

Lorene

I'm thinking Lorene's idea of bringing the guys along to Tom's farm might be good. I'm sure Steve didn't quite give Lynne a hard enough time. :)

10/27/08 10:56 PM #1136

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Oh no Pat, I don't know if I will be up to Steve again. You have to remember I will have been on the road for 15 days in an RV with my 80 year old mother who has alzheimers. I'm not sure it would be safe for Steve to show up and give me a bad time. I might have to hurt him this time, maybe knock him out and put him in the trunk of the car and drop him off at the nudist camp, NAKED TOO. LOL!!!!

Maurene BuSteed (Andrade)

Ok Lynne, here is the other amigo, I have been pretty busy, It is hard, don't have alot of time to do the normal and fun things, just working to hard.

Lynne, sorry I won't be able to come down to southern Ca.
Neighbors are going out of town and we are watching there animals, so Joseph and I will be spending Thanksgiving with his Mom at the nursing home she is 87 years old.
Yes Lynne, I really miss our crazy and wild times and the games we played on Lorene, she was always the first one to go to sleep, I can't go to sleep that fast I think of all the things I have to do the next day, just give Lorene a pillow and a blanket and she is gone, I have a wonderful twin and love her alot. I never laughed so hard. Hey Mike! remember that night! Lynne and I were in tears laughing so hard.
Lynne remember when you talked to my Mom and she said I thought you guys were older than 16 years old, you said Oh! My are we in trouble! It was so much fun, this amigo wishes I could be with all of you at Tom's farm.
This amigo is singing off, and saying goodnight to all the Pirates.

Maurene

Deborah Roderick (Hanson)

HI EVERYONE! IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO GO INTO THE FORUM AND CATCH UP WITH ALL OF YOU! I THINK THE AFTERNOON AT TOM'S FARM IS A GREAT IDEA, AND I WILL BE THERE. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE SOME OF YOU AGAIN! FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE WONDERING, "GLEN IVY" IS A WONDERFUL DAY SPA, AND "GLEN EDEN" IS A "SUN CLUB" OR NUDIST CAMP ABOUT THREE MORE MILES DOWN THE ROAD. I KNOW THIS, BECAUSE WHEN MY HUSBANB AND I FIRST MOVED TO CORONA IN 1992, A CUSTOMER AT THE DEALERSHIP HE WORKED IN, GAVE HIM TWO FREE PASSES TO THE SUN CLUB. WELL, THANK GOODNESS I CALLED FIRST, TO SEE IF I NEEDED TO MAKE A RESERVATION FOR A MASSAGE, BECAUSE OUR TICKETS WERE FOR THE NUDIST CAMP. I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY CRAPPED AND FELL BACK IN IT IF I HAD JUST GONE OUT THERE WITHOUT CALLING. ANYWAYS, THE GLEN IVY DAY SPA WOULD BE A FABULOUS OUTING FOR YOU GIRLS IF YOU WANT TO CONSIDER THAT DOWN THE ROAD......THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS TO DO WITHOUT SPENDING A TON OF MONEY, TOO. I CAN STAY THERE ALL DAY FOR THE PRICE OF ADMISSION. IT IS LIKE GOING A WONDERFUL VACATION FOR ONE DAY. THE GROUNDS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND IT IS VERY REJUVINATING PLACE TO SPEND THE DAY. YOU ALL TAKE CARE, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON NOVEMBER 22......LOVE DEBBIE HANSON

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

HEELLLLLOOOOOO OUT THERE!

Yes, Debbie I agree with Pat your story was pretty darn funny.

I've been taking care of my Mom where there is no internet service so I feel very out of touch. However it doesn't look like our site has had much action lately.
is everyone OK? Yes, I KNOW, I KNOW everyone has a job. Well, I have two jobs, but I just don't get paid for them. One is long haul driving in my little Chevy Yukon back and forth to Moses Lake to be with my husband. The second job is taking care of my 80 year old mother with AD, now that's becomming a full time job Bless her heart, and anyone else who is afflicted with this horrible disease.

I will be leaving on Nov. 7th for the trip to Laughlin, Yuma, So. CA, and Parker AZ. I can't wait to see you all at Tom's Farms, especially you STEVE DENAHAM!!!!

My other 2 amigos where are you? Janice where are you haven't heard from you either, and yes you too Miss Molly!

Take care everyone see you soon,
Lynne

Well someone had a busy Sunday morning. I'd checked in earlier and all was as before, then Geneva pointed out the changes not more than an hour or so later. Looks cool to me.

Looks good to me too Phyllis, good job as usual.

Hey, does anyone remember a guy name Paul Pappas? I don't remember if he was in our class or not, but I know he went to PHS. Anyone remember him? I don't have any yearbooks to look back in.

Thanks,
Lynne

Tom's Farm's is quaint for shopping and eating. Do you know there is a wonderful Spa just up the road from Tom's Farm's, Glen Ivy "Club Mud" Health Resort and Spa!!! No nudist's allowed at the spa, by the way. You ladies want to meet at Tom's Farm's and then spend the day at the Spa then I am so there. It would be such a pity to drive to Corona and not have a wonderful massage, lounge in the mineral bath, sea salt bath, Roman bath, the famous "mud" bath which is a wonderful exfoliant/skin softener, I'm already feeling like a wet noodle!! Once you go to the spa you will want to live there!!
The day after receiving my DVD of our reunion, my home was burglerized. I was so relieved to have remembered taking the reunion disc out of the laptop and back in it's envelope or it would have gone bye bye with the laptop. My home wasn't the only one that week on my street and the juveniles have been arrested and will go before the judge soon but as you probably know all info is sealed on juveniles. All my "best" jewelry was stolen, don't know if the police will ever find everything but we do have the best police in Long Beach and the punks were arrested from finger prints. I have a feeling the kids have a past record. It's quite traumatic to walk into an unlocked house (that is always locked) to see every drawer removed and turned upside down. My 15 yr old cat was frightened for days after ward.

Back to better times. Let's talk about white water rafting. It is a blast!! It's hairy and scary and beautiful and the water is so cold and refreshing and it's great exercise paddling that raft and just being outside and on the river and there is usually hiking involved. You'll feel muscles you didn't know you had. Lynne...what "Rate" is the river? I know I'll never raft again having 2 hip replacements but I really have to tell everyone to be very careful about this rafting. I HATE to say this but at our age and truly more power to ya' should you do this trip. I just don't want anyone to get hurt, because I've seen it happen. I did the American River in Sacramento and it was a hoot, like I said, but it was 15 years ago, the rate on the river is very important so...What is the rate of the river?
Well, we're heading into the holiday season, the "family season" I call it. I love the orange and browns, yellows and russet colors of the Fall and the reds and greens and lights of Christmas (I'm not talking about wines, ha ha) Season.
I do, always wish everyone the best...we deserve it, we've been good kids, I think we have!!
Really would have loved to seen Genie Vasco and Judy Paugh at the mini reunion. I'm happy you all had a great time, great pictures, happy faces!! That's what it's all about!!

Robin
