Jerry Jefferson

Jerry joined the Army shortly after graduation and was killed in Vietnam in 1968. He left one daughter, Michelle. His name appears on the Bourbon County Vietnam Memorial, as well as on the Kentucky Vietnam Memorial in Frankfort and on the National Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.

It should be noted that Jerry Wayne was awarded the "Siver Star", for bravery during combat.
This medal is ranked just below the "Medal of Honor", our highest military honor. I do not know the specific details, but be assured this award as not given lighty.

I recall that when Jerry was killed in action the national news media reported on his death.  He was either the 25,000th or 30,000th vetran killed in this war (if these numbers are incorrect, someone feel free to post an update).

I remember Jerry especially from grade school.  He was quite a cut-up and was basically a constant "live wire!"  As with all vetrans who served, and particularly those who gave their lives for our freedom, I remain grateful and thankful for their sacrifices.
