Life is Quirky.  When I was a new freshman at Piedmont I had a big crush on Karen.  She never knew about it (thank God).  Four years later we were both dateless for the Senior All Night.  With much trepidation, I called her several days before graduation and asked if she'd be interested in going with me.  She agreed (much to my surprise), and we had a fairly good time.  I've often kicked myself for not acting on my inclination sooner, but always sort of felt she was "out of my league".  I was probably right!  I hope she had a good life with much happiness.

I kept in contact with Karen all the years though living in Minn. was way to far away from me .  She was my best friend in high school and the maid of honor in our wedding and a dear friend.  Karen past away last summer after being ill for a couple of  years with a fronto temporal dementia.  Karen had a wonderful husband, Dr. Bob, and two daughters.  She was the neighborhood cookie lady, the go-to for anything, gardener, designed their home remodel, well and able to take on any task plus enjoyed life.  One of her last outings was a caribbean cruise with her sister Gigi and her girls.  She is missed by many.

Karen was wonderful.  I loved being her friend in High School.  She was always ready to laugh, and she was a good and loyal listener.  I remember how much fun we had at Camp Augusta.  I will miss Karen, and I feel happy and grateful to have known her.

Karen was often my seat mate due to our "K" names.  No matter what the current issue of the day, she always offered an encouraging word. I remember her dazzling smile and ebullient spirit!
