After graduating from Churchill High School, went onto Massanutten Military Academy's prep school program with Gary Sapp and Randy Wilson. After about ten minutes, I knew the military wasn't for me. It took Sapp about a day and Randy loved it. Went onto West Virginia Wesleyan where for six years I majored in Rugby. Following college, I began my lifelong career in social services. I worked 12 years in the St. Francis Hospital Children's Psychiatric Unit, left the unit for a two year hiatus in sales. One night, while leaving a Peter, Paul and Mary concert I had a moment of clarity and told my wife that I needed to get back into social services. I left sales shortly after that and worked for 8 years with the Allegheny County Housing Authority as the coordinator of the Family Self Sufficiency Program, primarily focused on reintegrating single mothers on welfare back into the workforce by coordinating their participation in job training programs. I am currently employed with Action Housing (10 years) as a Social Service Coordinator where my job focuses primarily on people with disabilities. One thing I've learned in my many years in social services is that I've been blessed with many opportunities that others have not. I've come to realize that people are all the same; sharing the same basic needs. But also that all people are unique and extraordinary. I've never seen myself as someone who sets out every day to save the world but, as Thoreau said, discover a better way to live in it... And last, anybody who knows me will agree that I enjoy life, but NEVER TAKE LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY.
I would be remiss if I did not mention my wife of 26 years, Patty Rumgay Quinn. Patty is a Nurse Practitioner at the University of Pittsburgh Student Health. We share many interests; among them sports (hockey), theatre/Broadway (many trips to New York City), vacationing at the beach or the lake, golf and so on.
