There was nothing quite like the satisfaction of skipping study hall to join a team for a late afternoon drainage pipe exploration, waving to the assistant principal in the hall on the way out (and seeing him waive back from afar, certain that whatever we were doing was legit), and emerging from the manhole in the track field!

Wonder if ol' Mr. Tillack still keeps his picture album of Ugly Brides from the weekly newspapers? I felt privileged to be one of the few to see who'd won previous Ugly Bride of the Month and Ugly Bride of the Year titles.

I still believe that probably only 2% of the folks at halftime were listening to my brother the one-time guest stadium announcer when he said something to the effect "And now the band will take the shape of a GIANT POTATO as ... "
