I am proud to say that in the last 40 years……I have managed to stay out of jail…have two interesting careers…. AND marry a wonderful man who moved me out of Morningside and all the way out here to Long Island!!!
After High School, I went on to Art School to study photography, and I worked for 19 years for Allegheny County as a photographer, the last 15 of them as a Forensic Photographer with the Crime Lab there. I married in 1993, and moved to Long Island New York, where I am now living and working. I spent 16 years working as the receptionist at Arizona Iced Tea, and just this past year I have gotten back into photography a bit with my new position as office photographer and media storage specialist. My husband Joe and I are counting the days to retirement (can you believe that we are all old enough to retire soon???) and I think I have it figured out to the minute!!! We are avid golfers, no children, two incomes, and can’t wait to move to warm weather and golf all year long!!! It is mind blowing to realize that 40 years has passed since we were all in that goofy lunch room at St. Rays, gossiping and screaming over dumb stuff that we all thought was so important to us all at the time……..and I can only hope that the next two years go by as quickly for me as the last 40 have…..so that I can get my sorry butt out of all of this snow, and move on to the next phase of life. Looking forward to seeing all of my “old” friends from some of the happiest times of my life!!! Can’t wait for the reunion!!!
1. I don’t have a whole lot of “memory cells” remaining these days…..but I will try my best!! One of my fondest memories was when Sister Regina Claire beat me with my own coat because she happened upon me sitting in detention for no apparent reason (which in itself was rare for me) and when she asked why I was there, my reply to her was that I was keeping Barb Cserer company while SHE sat through her detention. My stupidity in this situation aggravated that poor old soul so much that she grabbed my coat from me and began beating me with it, all the while scolding me for being so stupid as to sit through detention for no good reason. She told me that was one of the dumbest things she had ever heard, and the whole time she was whipping me with my coat, that I might add, had lots of buckles and buttons that stung……Barb and I were laughing so hard we had to run out of the room. I don’t know what that woman thought when she was done, but I think I ran all the way home that day!!!
2. Another fond memory of St. Rays has to be “LUNCH TIME” in our wonderful cafeteria!!! What great times we all had gathering for lunch, and exchanging laughs together. Whether we were standing in line waiting for those wonderful Ham and Cheese sandwiches, or eating our usual ice cream sandwich from the vending machine and cheese popcorn from Nates…….it was always fun to gather together and shout from table to table to each other about the day’s events. No matter what time they tried to schedule our lunch hours, we all seemed to manage to gather together at the same time (I guess that means I skipped a lot of classes, because I managed to make ALL OF THE LUNCH HOURS) I guess I would have to say LUNCH was one of my favorite classes!!!
3. Another favorite memory of mine has to be one of our “most informative assemblies” which involved a Doctor coming in to talk to us about SEX!!! I will never forget all of us girls sitting there hanging on his every word, and me, trying to take in whatever knowledge he had to share, because… God forbid……my mother wasn’t going to tell me any of it, and this nut standing there telling us a load of CRAP, that I actually believed!!! To this day I still can’t wear patent leather shoes for fear that someone is going to look up my dress……..and I don’t even wear dresses much anymore!! The thought that you could get pregnant from dancing too close to a boy still makes me laugh. Of course, the girls who were “doing it” in high school all laughed, but for those of us who weren’t “scoring so well”, just let me say, it was a real eye opener at a much later point in my adult life!!! And I won’t even go into the discussion that we had with Father Costello (I think that was his name) when the nuns all found out that we were all reading some paperback book about sex, and they had him come in to speak to us about it. Oh those were the days!!! I don’t even want to think about what kids are doing now in high school!!!
Love love love to travel. I have been to a lot of the islands from the Bahamas to Tahiti, and always enjoy the sun. My husband and I traveled to Europe a few times, and we even rented a villa in Tuscany once to experience the Italian countryside on our own. It was a wonderful trip, and I would recommend that to anyone who is willing to drive around Italy deciphering Italian road signs!
My most exotic trip by far has to be a trip to morocco on a whim when we were in Spain. What an incredible adventure, but for sure a once in a lifetime treat.
Can't say that I actually really met this person...but I sat right in front of John Kennedy Jr.one time at a Crosby, Stills, Nash, concert, and I almost wet my pants. I sat through the entire Concert, and never even realized he was behind me until the end, and I have to say that he was just as handsome in person as he was in all of the magazine pictures of him.
Eating, Sleeping, Reality TV, and hopefully soon…….RETIREMENT!!!
Lose 20 pounds!!! Boy do I want to do that in the near future.
Mentally 5......Physically 95
Because of my many years as a photographer, I have met a lot of neat people, and I have photographed a lot of interesting events that I would never have had access to otherwise. It's a shame that my memory is so bad....but the good thing is that at least I have some great photographs of of a lot of the cool stuff I've done. The most recent of my "cool things" has to be zip lining over the jungles in Mexico just this past November.
