I attended the University of Michigan, from which I received a B.A in 1971. I then attended Columbia Law School, from which I received a J.D. in 1974. I received a Masters of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1981. I was an associate at a law firm in Washington, DC from 1974-76, an attorney-advisor in the Office of Chief Counsel in the IRS from 1977-1980, and then an attorney-advisor in the Office of Tax Legislative Counsel in the Treasury Department from 1980-84. In 1984, I joined the National Tax Department of Ernst & Whinney (later Ernst & Young) in Washington, DC. I became a partner in 1985, the Director of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group in 1994, and retired in 2005. For 5 years after I retired, I was an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Law School.

I married Ellen Roche in 1981; we have two daughters, Sharon Desh, an attorney in Chicago, and Joanne Yecies, an investment advisor in Washington, DC. We live in Sarasota, Florida. My time is taken up with golf, travel, friends, family, baseball movies, theater, synagogue, and reading.

Michael was a friend from early on and throughout high school---Minadeo, Hebrew School, IKC. He was an absolutely terrific guy. I was very saddened to learn of his passing.

Billy and I were in the same biology class. He loved cars. I can recall his talking at length about them with Mr. Herman.
