Very sad to report that June Manning passed away. It was a great pleasure to spend some time with her at our 50th in 2014 and also to cross paths on the Vineyard several times over the years. She was a wonderful person and certainly one of MV's great treasures, too. If you have any problems with the link to the obituary search martha's vineyard gazette- June Manning.

So sad to read about June. She seemed indomitable - so busy doing so many things. She was one of the first people to contact me via Facebook and then this site. A lovely person. Good memories!

So glad that June Manning came to our 50th Reunion celebration in June 2014. I had a chance to talk with her briefly at that reunion. Reading her two obituaries in the Vineyard Gazette and the MV Times (mvtimes.com), I was struck by how grounded June was in her community on Martha's Vineyard. She was a columnist for the Vineyard Gazette for over 28 years. In addition, June was always selflessly helping out wherever she could in her community, even helping to distribute food at the local foodbank.
I think June had a bit of a poet in her based on a comment she made about living close to a lighthouse in her neighborhood as quoted in the MV Times.
“Perhaps the best aspect of living in Aquinnah is that my neighborhood is under the beacon of the lighthouse,” she wrote. “There is a constant peace and calmness just watching the beams of the light, day and night. The lighthouse beams across our neighborhood in silence through the night and dances around during the day."
Rest in Peace June Manning.

I, too, was distressed to learn of June's death. Recently I read an essay about her grandson who tends the lighthouse nearby June's house....a new assignment, she must have been very proud. A number of years ago I phoned her while on the Vineyard visiting Sara and we had a long chat. She was warm and ebullient and curious about so many things and certainly a vital member of her community. May she rest in peace.

I met June the first time in Mr. Muldari's (spelling) 4th grade class at Roselle. I was delighted with her friendship as we often spent part of the summer on Martha's Vineyard with my aunt. I always looked her up if she was there. I loved her outlook on life, how involved she was with ALL of her communities including PHS and enjoyed catching up on her life when rooming with her at our 50th. My thoughts and prayers for her family and MV community. She will be sorley missed. RIP

A few years ago I was reading a book that talked about indiginous people in Martha's Vinyard, When I happened to check the credits at the end of the book, I found June's name mentionned as a historical resource. It had not been something I had known about her at the time so it enhanced my understanding and appreciation of her background and her efforts in support of her indiginous ancestors.
June will be missed.

I have wonderful memories of the time I spent with June at the 50th reunion. I had the privilege of picking her up in Falmouth and driving her to the reunion which was arranged by Janet Melaney my great friend from across the street on Sarles Lane. June had a fabulous memory down to Roselle Street days. And she kept in touch with so many of our classmates which I had not done partly because my family moved during my high school years and I went to three high schools in three separate states. Until that trip I did not know she had not graduated from PHS either so we also have that in common.Anyway the hours that we spent to and from the reunion remain strong in my memory and I know what an amazing contribution she made to her community on Martha's Vineyard and how loved and respected she was there.
