Fran Whitely  -  I called her Franny.  It is hard to write about Fran.  I guess one must start with her beauty not only in general apperance but when she danced.  And could she dance.  Not only ballroom but Ballet.  To add to this beauty she had a personalty and a way to make those around her feel her inter charm when she spoke with the glowing smile.  As I sit here thinking of seeing her happy face in the halls, at game, at dances, and Yaws, years later at reunions and thinking I shall not see her once more, my heart is heavy with saddness.  Then again with some joy that I was able to know her those few years at Grant.  What a LADY.  You will always in in our hearts and thoughts "FRANNY"

I remember when Fran and I first met, it was September 1948.  Both of our families had moved to Portland from the East Coast.  We were waiting in the Office at Beaumont School to meet our Fourth Grade teacher.  We became very good friends as we both adjusted to a move and a new school. I remember so well what a beautiful dancer Fran was and the many times she danced in school events.  Over the years we went our separate ways and it was not until our 50th reunion did we reconnect.  How very sad to find out that she has passed away, she was such a beauty.

I was so sorry to hear about Fran's passing.  She was such an icon of beauty and grace at Grant High School.  As we were the two leads in The Young and The Fair, a senior class play, we spent a lot of time together in rehersals.  She really was exquisite on stage.  When I caught up with her at our 50th high school reunion, we did the tour of Grant and ended up on the stage together, again.  We spent a lot of time talking not only about our years at Grant but also about the intervening years...our families, our careers, and attitudes about life in general.  She was still as bright, interesting, and creative as always.  She will be missed.   Very very sad.
