HELLO CLASSMATES!!!

I decided to access the class website this weekend. Have not heard from anyone via the class website in a long time. How are things going these days?

We have had some pretty cold weather in Port Gibson this winter as well as in other towns, cities, and states up North, East, and out in Texas. Heavy snow in many places.

Well, let's get busy and keep things active on the Class Website. I have not seen any thing in the Message Forum Section (or any other section) in a long time.

Take care,

Herbert

 Classmates,

It's Sunday evening.. A time we all savor for reflection, relaxation, perhaps meditation; So I'm in that zone where we sometimes go at our age!..I've taken myself way, way, way back!....Earlier tday while checking my email, I noted a msg had been posted to our Class website!..Words will never convey the shock and sadness I experienced to learn of the untimely demise of Mrs. Josephine  Dobbins Hosey!.. A profoundly gifted teacher who became my mentor, and in later years my friend!.. She ignited in all of us -Addison High School, Class of 1968-the desire to be better than we were: to reach! stretch! shoot! bound! leap!..however you got to your higher ground, Ms. Hosey gave you the confidence to at least try!.. Soft-spoken, cultured in her delivery, enunciating each syllable in an expansive vocabulary of words we had never heard!.. Lol!.. Consciously making us scurry to the dictionary she demanded we bring to class!..(her vocabulary-building technique) How could we possibly comprehend what she was saying without the dictionary?.. I don't recall a raised voice or frustrated impatience in Ms. Hosey. Why were we so well-behaved in her class and lost all sense of obedience by the time we lagged to Mr. Clark?.

Laugh Out Loud and Kill Yourself Laughing!..'Cause you know you did'!

The girls admired Ms. Hosey's sense of style: Banlon sweater sets and matching straight wool skirts with a slit straight in the back, seam never twisted!... Stockings and heels, pressed hair, always immaculate!..We tried to emulate her in so many ways!..The guys pleased her by keeping the chalk board clean; she had a praise for the ones who did that! Moreover, they respected her by dropping their glance when she passed their desks and lifted them to watch as she glided away! I dare not speculate on their thoughts! I will just say, 'Boys'!

'Girl, you trying to act like Ms Hosey!..'You must think you Ms. Hosey!...I Wish I Could!.. I Wish I Might!.. I Wish To See Her Smile So Bright!..Farewell, My Teacher, My Mentor, My Friend!.. Ms. Josephine Dobbins Hosey

Excellently said Linda! Mrs. Hosey was one of my beloved high school teachers. She was a great influence on me as for as my deciding what my major would be in college. All of my English teachers were very influential. Even after I finished working in the Claiborne County Public School System, I would meet Mrs. Hosey at the Post Office or Walmart, etc., and she would always give me some encouraging words. She will be missed.

Finally, I must say to the class, we should keep in mind that all of the people we once called the "old people" are gradually leaving us.  We are now "the old people." Share and cherish the moments that we have.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Hosey. I will cherish your memories for the rest of my days on earth.

To all classmates, take care and always remember that God loves you (John 3:16).

Herbert

Just reading your post, Herbert. Your tribute is very warm and heartfelt, as well!..It's now our time: to leave some wisdom on this earth, like our parents, teachers, and mentors have done...Not to be pessimistic, Our time is winding down!..Let's be more about God's business!..Love Ye One Another!

To the Class of 1968: Thank you so much for your kind expressions of sympathy during the passing of my brother, Sampson McGriggs, Jr. in Los Angeles, California on June 22, 2015. A special thanks to Ellen Davis and her sister who spoke so eloquently, and so highly of my brother during the visitation and funeral, bringing much comfort to our family.  Please continue to keep our family uplifted in your prayers, and especially his wife of 56 years, Geneva.  We are truly grateful for the condolences  expressed during this very difficult time for our family.  May God continue to bless each of you and your families.

Dear class of 1968,  It was  wonderful seeing everyone again. Even though I didn't get a chance to speak personally to everyone I truly enjoyed seeing each and everyone of you!  My sister and I  decided  that we've enjoyed this reunion so much that we will see if we can attend our other siblings reunions. Of course we know that they will not be as  DYNAMIC as the class of 1968!

Hello Classmates, I hope and trust that all are well. I invite you to watch my former students, David and Tamela Mann sing for former President and Mrs. Obama and their guests at the White House. Google: Tamela Mann Performs at the White House 2015. Take Care... God Bless!
