This was the photo in the Roanoke Times that covered the crash. They had been in town attending his wife's 10-year reunion.

This saddens me and really brings home the point that anything can happen at any time. Did they have any children?Darla Anderson (Whitehead)
No, they did not have any children.Joni Dawn Harvey (Farley)
So sad........ I didn't know about Randy or Lisa Long. It would be neat if you could post a photo of him on his page. We've lost three good people (that I'm aware of) since graduation. I'm glad he was a Christian! Please pass our regrets and prayers onto your family.Jennifer Lynn Proctor (Belcher)
I guess I've been under a rock all these years....I actually have a memory that is quite funny to me of him.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Randy was a good guy. I had no idea that this had happened to him and his wife.Lori Williamson (Nahay)
Randy and I hung out together for a while due to our parents knowing one another. He was the funniest guy and so sweet. I cried when I read that he was killed. I regret not keeping in touch with him...Lori

I didn't know Randy very well but it would be fair to say that he always had my attention! Especially when we were in grade school. I was a pretty proper child in some respects and always very shy around boys in general. Randy got into a lot of harmless trouble in fourth grade. Like most overly-active kids in elementary school, he was probably just extremely smart. He was certainly never a bully. And even though I thought he was untame, he had some way of softening my guard. It must have been the disarming smile and beautiful eyes that as an adult, I can see so clearly in his school picture. For a while, at least, he lived in the development above mine and I saw him every morning on the way to grade school. He once invited me to his birthday party and I think my mother had to really encourage me to go. But thank goodness she did. He was charming and a good host. I'm not sure who else was there but we ended up sitting in a circle on his basement floor playing spin the bottle. That led to a few minutes in a dark laundry room or closet. We were 10-year-old kids mind you, and I honestly can't remember if we just talked or if he actually kissed me. For me, it was a definite mini rite-of-passage. For Randy, I think he was definitely on the committee that chose the games for that birthday party!
It's heartbreaking to hear that he lost his life so prematurely. It sounds like, from reading other comments, that his charm and good nature really stuck. I hope that he had some good buddies when he was little. It sure sounds like he did later on. He might have always been a little ahead of his time. Bless him, his wife and their memory. You were a unique and amazing kid, Randy.
