After high school, attended Marshall University majoring in print journalism. Got involved with the college paper where I met my husband, Luke, and started learning about design and newsroom management.
Spent a lot of time in college going to local and regional indie rock and punk shows, working with promoters to get write-ups in the college paper and started generally writing about music and other aspects of pop culture, which led to writing for the paper in Huntington doing some of the same stuff as well as design.
What I do now, however, is news design. My focus is mainly special section and magazine design, but I do plenty of daily stuff too sports, front pages, everything plus the kitchen sink. Oh, and I also manage fellow news designers and try to mentor them. I call them my minions, and, yes, they do my evil (or not-so-evil) bidding.
