BYU Hawaii for one great semester with BoydTingey, Colby Wight, Kimo Esplin, Ray Thomson(Merrill), and Chris Hughes. After that the fun ended and I had to get serious. Mission to Bangkok Thailand then back to BYU. BSEE at BYU then masters at UofU. Worked at Eaton-Kenway (now HK Systems) until '95 then worked for Sarcos on Jurassic Park The Ride and Bellagio fountains, then back to school at UofU for PhD. That was enjoyable but somewhat of a hardship with 5 kids and a house payment. Following that, moved to Tucson, Az to do guided missile work for Raytheon. After 6 years in Tucson, I was wooed to Logan to work on Unmanned ground vehicles for Autonomous Solutions. Economy didn't help and I was let go last April and now work for Boomerang systems in Logan working on robotic car parking. 7 patents and 3 pending all related to robotics in one way or another. Quick Update- retired. Run a short term rental near the Logan temple, involved in square and round dancing and in a folk and bluegrass band and trying to keep up with 17 grandchildren. Plan to serve a mission sometime in the next few years. I enjoy art, specifically polymer clay and wall art. I also made a couple of audio books with lots of sound FX and some music background. I made them for my grandchildren, but I would happy to give to anyone who is interested. I hope to make a couple of more in the future.
I also enjoy skiing, mtn biking, hiking, and swimming. I still run a couple of times a week, but just for quick exercise. It's just not as fun as it used to be. So if anyone needs a pal to go with on any of those things, I would love to do it.

Went to a cross country meet last fall to watch my daughter and I saw this guy looking at me. I leaned forward a little squinting my eyes trying to recognize the familiar face. He mimicked me as I edged closer to him. Finally I broke the silence but still with some uncertainty, "Are you Coach Sorensen??" He responded somewhat distant, "NO", but added enthusiastically, "but he was my coach!" Then it hit me, "Chris Hughes!" and he rebounded with "John Petersen!" We had a good laugh about it and it was fun to see him again. He really does look like Coach Sorensen did ... about 30 years ago. Funny it didn't occur to me that he would have aged.

Each year I make a montage of the family as a sort of a summary of the year. This is for 2009. In short, for this last year, I was let go from Autonomous Solutions during the economic struggle and got a job at Boomerang systems in Logan. Janene and I were thrust into Grandparenthood mid December and Marcy is on a Mission for the LDS church in Sao Paulo Brazil. Janene is becoming an expert carpenter (carpentress?) Katie is attending Utah State University, and Dorothy, Charlotte, and Miles run wild through the streets of Providence.
