Diane T Mulcahy (Malmgren)
Well, here we are still in Florida two months over our normal time to head north. My husband ruptured his heel cord, so he was put in a cast for several weeks, now he’s in a boot. Has only been able to walk on that foot a little for about a week. Hoping the orthopedic surgeon (which we see in two weeks) will give him a clearance to walk on that foot.
(He tore his Achilles tendon about 35 years ago while we were playing racquet ball.) Some medicine was prescribed months ago for some illness. He (who always reads, and reminds me to read) the warnings. Of course, this time he didn’t, and one of the effects of the medicine (which we're told is rare), is weakening of heel cords. ALWAYS READ THE SIDE EFFECTS!
We decided to stay here for his therapy, because getting all our moveable objects in a safe place (in case of hurricanes) and trying to get home seemed too hard to manage. And we’re on one floor here versus 14 carpeted steps back in Quincy,
We already had a horrendous storm with high winds. The wind whipped one of the blades out of a fan on our lanai and smashed a window.
Anyway, it’s beautiful here (if you like 100 degree temps and 90 percent humidity). And, it does not cool down at night. Thank goodness for a/c. The clouds here are absolutely amazing. And they build until late afternoon thunderstorms. The lighting shows are crazy.
Most of the community (snowbirds) headed out in April. And many of the full-time residents headed out to visit family or friends. So it’s very eerie being here with almost no one around.
Disappointed we won’t see the Squantum parade this year, or the fireworks over Boston. Tampa’s having a huge display, but it’s too far away to see them. There are fireworks tents on every corner, so I’m sure we’ll see fireworks anyway.
Of course, I didn’t bring my word docs for the website down. (I keep May to September on my pc in Quincy.)
As they (whoever they are) say, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Happy 4th everyone!
