Hey I saw a post on the internet thta said by the year 2030 they are going to ban meat in 14 cities, and Boston was number two. Whats wrong with a good steak, although we eat so damn much chicken we should all have feathers. Makes you wonde if there is any sanity left in our world. devil, Tee

Drivers along Florida's Gulf Coast were told they could have purchased gas contaminated with diesel fuel over the weekend, as residents in the area prepared for Tropical Storm Idalia to make landfall.  Details of when/where contaminated gas would have been purchased is on the internet.  Click on the site below for more information:

‘Widespread fuel contamination’ reported at some Florida gas stations as Idalia looms (tampabay.com)

On the news this morning, I saw a report that a Florida woman said she thought she was going to die after she was impaled in the back by a stingray's venomous tail spine while wading at a beach south of Tampa in Ruskin.  (Where we have a place.  It happened on Bahia Beach, which is a lovely spot for swimming.)

For more details and pictures, click on the link below:

Florida woman impaled by stingray while wading at beach: 'Certain that I was going to die' (yahoo.com)

Years ago, when Janice (Nolan) Zellen and our husbands were visiting Florida, we stopped by to see a friend and classmate, Chip Schultz, who lived in Sarasota.  He told us to do the "stingray shuffle" before going into the water to scare off the stingrays.  (Chip passed in 2020.)

I hope the storm has little or no impact on our classmates, friends ands family who live on the Gulf Coast or in the projected path of the storm. Stay safe!

Thank you Diane for the info. I am
I am in the direct path of the storm.
Crystal River is just north of us.
We hardy New Englanders we will get through this.

You're welcome, Cathy.  I always wanted to visit Crystal River, which is about an hour north of us.  We're in Quincy now, but my sister is in Ruskin, and I'm hoping she'll be ok.  I loved your reference to being a hardy New Englander.  Let's hope the storm doesn't cause a lot of damage.  The last one took out my next door neighbor's lanai in the back of their house, and it ended up in their front yard.  Stay safe.

We are fine here in Bradenton, just a lot of rain with these bands. The pond below our coach home is trying to become one with the golf course. In some senses we may have lucked out with our lack of rain over the summer. Now the water is purking into the ground and not standing in puddles. I think that with the eye of the hurricane staying further west into the gulf may have helped a lot of people. I see the small trees with pankake roots that blew down in Ian.are still standing. St Armans Circle is under water and flooding all of the shops and restaurants like Columbia. They are all at side walk level what a shame.

We have another 6 weeks to go with these damn Hurricanes, Hope and pray is all one can do. Its bad enough trying to get insurance that doesn't cost you and arm and a leg, if you can even find it.

Mike,  find a different doctor!!

If that's not practical, get a ride up to Miami and take a train. It's a great way to travel! Or just drive all the way.

On the other hand, if you start walking on or about March 9, average about 20 miles per day (I'm pretty sure you can do this!), and you will be here by late June!  AND, you'll be in great shape!

Seriously though, it's too bad you can't make it.  I was looking forward to seeing you again.  By the way, I cancelled to open tab at Schooner Wharf because it wan't being used! wink

You still have plenty of time to find a new doc!

All the best buddy,

Tom

Tom. tab is still open and being used!  I used to dirve to NY/NJ yearly to spend a month or so with my daugthers' families. Not since Covid and loss of the galblatter! With all the technowledgy today, why can't they transplant the galblatter? Before, when locals owned most of the hotels I had lots of visitors. Now with the coporations having bought up the local joints, prices have skyrocketed. Used to be $50 a night, now low is $500 a night with a three-day minimum! At least there's still a few watering holes that give local prices!  Maybe I will give them my support this afternoon!

Paula, I was curious if I could still find North Quincy. Since they filled in the marsh and built on it, I'd get lost on the Whitey Tour!

I remember as a kid Filene's Basement and how much Boston seemed like a different world just miles above Quincy square. Joe and Nemos and The Bargan Center. There was a bus station where you could get a cup of Coffee. I am not a fan of change, but at the very least we still have our memories. There was a place on Southern Attaery called the Leaning Tower of Pizza. For every player that scored a touchdown they gave them a free pizza pie. So Billy Curran kept us from going hungry on Saturday nights. I forgot who drove but Joe Z found a way. I think Paul D was in the group too.

To be honest I am happy that we didn't have any electronics in our day, because it does nothing but screw lives up today for kids. Does anyone remember the Rapids by Merry Mount? How when school let out we would head for the quarries to swim naked [sans the ladies]. You knowwe did same crazy stuff when we wrer young, but it wa all innocent and free from the drugs of this day and age. All it took was a war to start the change. Oh well **it happens. October is a few days away and for us floridians it means cooler weather and an end to those named storms. Happy Holidays....Tee

I almost forgot, but Michael if I had some sanity to give you I would. But if word got out that there was eccesive sanity in Key West, those loony conks would lynch me. Theirs no sanity in that place, and they love it that way, Just look at OctoberFest, now that is one hell of a party, Stay safe and keep your eyes wide shut.cool

Jerry, FYI at 15 I worked at Orbit Dept Store on (I think) Morrisey Bld,  but tried to unionise it, lost the election but the Union mgt got me a job in women's dress in Filene's Basement! That's where I learned how crazy women can become during a sale. They'd grab dresses and strip down on the sales floor to try them on! A learning experience for a16 year old! The women always seemed to try and fit into a size or two too small! I never recovered. Went from retail sales into journalism at the Rec/American when I was 17. Hot presses and a whole different journalism that the automated world today. The Gilhooly (sic) brothers and Johnny Bishop and Warren Walworth got the ink into my blood and it still flows today. I also have to credit them with showing me who in composing always had a good bottle of liquor to share. Old habits are hard to break. I do miss those midnight to 8 a.m. shifts.

Thanks for waking up my memory!

Michael

Michael, I hope I woke up a whole bunch of other memories as as well. Like you I love to write, and obviosly with a far less perspective than the great Mike Murphy experiences. ,Actually, if I did it like you, my books would be thousnds of pages long as I never stop thinking, my mind just rambles in an uncontolled think experience. From one subject to another. That is why I said that as a younger generation we were gifted without the electronics of today. That allowed us to be who we were as a person, and not be clumped, catagorised and shufflled into something we were not. Vietnam changed all that, and when we returned I don't believe that most of us had an incline to who we were, in trrruth because we were changed. I treasure the memories and hours we spent on Sailors Home Pond, and the ice of kavanaugh field after it was flooded..The kids today are bombared with everything that is unnatural to sound human growth. Our imaginations are special to our survival because their are no gate keepers in our minds that will prevent the freedom to use our own will, or the need to seek our own happiness. Age is never a barrier, only a number.

Jerry, I figured today's kids listen to us like we listened to our parents/grandparents about their lives and how it was without all the gadgets. My greatgrandparents would be aghast with our lives today. Time marches on and waits for no man, I guess. My grandkids wouldn't know what to do if they weren't able to carry their phone and I was happy when my Aunt Joe put a 10foot extension on her wall  phone.

Get a book on fiction editing. You'll see your stories have a lot of repentativeness that can be cut.

Good luck from sunny Key West

Mike

Let me be honest with everyone, I have been married for 57 years to my wife Carol. I have been blessed to have her in my life. She is a beutiful person and partner to which I have given a small prortion of grief over the years. Those ladies who were married to veterans understand what I mean. In my wifes case she should have left me a hundred times as I was not kind, but I was not evil either , so we endured. The strength of my life, and of my family, was important, both then and now. I know given our last reunion that some ladies were not happy with me and saw me in a different light, and that is sad. As a person I speak the truth, as we embrace the honesty of ourselves and our emotions. My wife saved me from myself as I went down the wrong paths, never drugs, just with the wrong people. She recently asked me about guns and I told her some scary stuff that was not me. Yes, in a mans life  a good women can make a big difference. You girls are strong, and you are the difference, and strength to YOUR famlies.  So please don't fault me for being honest in our truths. I live an honest life and I do not hide my faults or my wisdom, nor should you,. In all haonesty I hope this is not to much over the top for everyone to digest, Isn't it so much nicer to speak truths in an honest way...Oh hell yes!!!!

Sorry to hear about Steve Tibbittd he was a great guy to hang with.   Steve, Bob Chute and I would spend hours  as members of the track team having contest high jumping drove Coach Gentry nuts as only two could enter at a meet.  Steve had a great sense of humor he will be missed.
