GRANDCHILDREN ARE THE BEST
After HS graduation, went to Campbell College (then) for 1 year and transferred to Kings College to finish my Assoc. Degree of Business.
1977: Worked as Secretary at CP&L, Got married in November 1977. Started our own business, Robert and I in October 1978,hauling soil, sand, & gravel. Had 1st child Feb. 1979. Stayed pregnant and barefoot for 3 - 4 years. I did all of the business books. Finally had to get help, because during the months of April - Sept. I had a sitter that came to the house each morning at 5:30am so that I could go out to the farm and work there, running the tractor to clean the rows, then using the hoe to chop the weeds, and then take care of the customers that came in to pick at our " U-PICK FARM" then located on hwy 401 (Louisburg Road). Stopped the u-pick after about 12 years and started raising fescue sod.
Then the family farm was sold (by his 2 older sisters) and we had to find a place to live, and a place to run our hauling business, which we had never stopped, and we had to get out of the sod business. We were not at all happy about that, but the Lord always makes good things happen out of bad situations, for those who love & trust Him and who want to follow His Ways. We were pretty much forced to move down to our farm in Cameron, between Sanford and Pinehurst, which had a house on it. I hated it because we were going to be far from our children and grandchildren and from the business office. Our children and their spouces were now running the business a good bit. We fixed up the house in Cameron and it is quite liveable, except it has lots of steps. The Lord is good though, because by us moving down here, I was led to doctors in Pinehurst to help determine what was wrong with me. I had been battling something for 10 years with many doctors, but down here they were able to recognize it right away and were able to start treating me quickly. I was told it was Myasthenia Gravis, but recently was told that I also have Lupus, and probably have had it the whole time which resulted in testing problems. I am doing better now. I was on life support 1 1/2 years ago and almost again this past March, but they were able to side step that by a C"_"PAP forcing air in to make the diaphram start working again.
Because of my problems, I pretty much handle some office business by being networked with our office computers, but if I am having a week where I really can't hardly get out of bed, the girls can handle it by calling me and I can walk them through things.
Robert goes to the Raleigh office much more than I do, so he sees the grandchildren more than I do, but I have to be content with that. For that reason, I enjoy every minute that I am with them.
Robert and I were able to get to this past years reunion and it was great seeing a lot of the people from our years gone by. I wish I could have seen more of my close friends, but I suppose a lot of you are too far away to make the trip.
We hope to get to another reunion too.
That's all for now folks,
See ya later.
