After Enloe I went to UNC Chapel Hill. The most significant thing that happened to me at UNC was that I accepted Christ as my personal savior. Unfortunately, over the next few years, it would have been hard to tell, by my lifestyle, that I had made that decision.
After 3 semesters, I transferred to UNC Greensboro and was there for only a year. I dropped out of UNCG to "get my head together"! (Remember that phrase from the 60s/70s?) It was supposed to be for only a semester or two, but it took me a while to accomplish that task, as I was out of school for 10 years!
In that time, I married and divorced my high school "sweetheart" (some of you probably remember Beth), and then married a second time. Unfortunately, that marriage didn't last either. However, it was in that relationship that my faith in Christ became alive and we brought into the world my beautiful daughter, Genny. I worked for both Hardee's and APCOA (a national parking concession company) during that 10 year stretch.
I returned to UNCG in January, 1983 and completed by BA in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration. I stayed at UNCG and got my Masters in Public Affairs, with an intention to work in local or state government. Unbeknownst to me, the Lord's plan was for me to teach, so not long after I graduated, I began teaching PSC at Guilford Technical Community College (Winter Quarter, 1986). Over my now 28 years of teaching, I have taught part-time at GTCC, Alamance Community College, and Greensboro College. I now teach full-time at UNCG (I am in my 37th year), retired from Elon University after 32 1/2 years).
My wife and I (and my daughter's family) are active members of Cornerstone Baptist Church here in Greensboro. I lead a Ministry called "Parents of Young Children" and teach one of the classes. I also lead the "Connections Ministry" at my church, along with other roles and responsibilities.
