Sandra "Sandy" Riggan Smith Obituary
Sandra “Sandy” Riggan Smith, 77, passed away Monday, November 10, 2025. She was born June 1, 1948, in Wake County to the late Joseph Holoman Riggan and Ethel Brown Riggan. Sandy retired from the NC Division of Social Services with 26 years of service. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Greg Smith; son, Richard Smith (Renee); grandchildren: Jennifer, Sandra, John, Joshua, MacKenzie, Brandon; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Scott Smith; sisters: Priscilla Raper and Lela Jo Freeman; and a brother, Dicky Riggan.
A service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27617.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11:00 to 11:45 am at the church.

Sandra (Sandy) Smith’s funeral services will be Thursday, 11/13/25, at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Leesville Rd. Visitation will be from 11:00-11:45 with the memorial service beginning at 12:00.

I am sorry to share that Sandy Riggan Smith died this morning, November 10, after suffering with bone cancer for some time. Keep Greg, her husband and the rest of her family in your prayers. Thank you.

To all classmates, I’m sure you all remember Sandra (Sandy) Riggan Smith. You may know that she has been battling a serious cancer. She has received bad news from the doctor and needs our prayers.
