Johnny and I were best of friends. We talked at least once a week. I miss him dearly. RIP my friend... Johnny Hartsfield

Johnny"s obituary from Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, NC...

John Richard Johnson, age 74, of Coves Point Court in Sherrills Ford, NC, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Denver United Methodist Church, 3910 North NC-16, Denver, NC 28037.

John was born November 7, 1948 in Raleigh to the late Malcolm Johnson and Estelle Moore.  He grew up playing baseball and loved sports. He graduated from Enloe High School in 1967, prior to embarking on the path that led him to become a successful insurance salesman. In 1971, he married the love of his life, and they spent 52 wonderful years together. He was full of experiences and had a story to go along with them all. Anyone who knew him would tell you how much he loved cooking, and he was honored to share his many famous recipes upon request. His love for cooking was big, but nothing compared to his love for family. "Daddy” was so proud of his daughters, and supported them through every stage of life. In 2022, he moved to Sherrills Ford to be closer to his grandsons who call him “Papa.” He made every attempt to be present at their ball games, piano concerts, and special school lunches. His main objective was making memories, not just for him, but for the people he loved the most.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Butler Johnson of the home; two daughters, Tracey Johnson (Mark Lovvorn) of Ramseur, and Cameron Wilson (Rich) of Sherrills Ford; grandsons, Luke Wilson and Abel Wilson; sister, Betty Lou Bizzelle of Raleigh; and brother, Walter Johnson of Raleigh.

Memorial gifts may be made to Denver United Methodist Church, PO Box 661, Denver, NC  28037.
