Things of Substance - National Police Week 2015

National Police Week
On Facebook we get to discuss in short detail, post pictures and provide links to things that we like.
We can get our 'friends' to like what we post; but, it quickly gets moved through the cycle of more posts in our news feeds from all of our 'friends'. Items of substance can often get lost.

Blogs are more like reading a book day after day!
Blogging demands more in terms of time and thought -- you have to do your homework!
A blog post ... With substance!
National Police Week 2015 -- Honoring our Nations Police Officers...
Police have been portrayed in a negative light lately in the news.
Negative publicity about the police in cities (Fergusen, Baltimore and Wisconsin) which have received high visibility around the nation, has played an impact on the public’s view of the police. But, these incidents should not reflect on police officers as a whole. The public image of the police can be very complex.
"Polls of the adult population in the United States since the 1960s, show that the majority of the public has an over-all positive view of the police."
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

It also is an opportunity to thank those who have served with integrety, honesty and valor.
Those who preserved the peace, and provided a safe environment in our neighborhoods.
Those who ensured our rights of liberty, equality and justice.

"The sacrifices that they make are sometimes overlooked or lost in the chaos of daily news and this is a place where they're not forgotten..." - Michele Walker, wife of fallen Trooper Mike Walker
273 officers killed in the line of duty will be honored in a candle light ceremony at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
Fallen officers are honored in Washington today, May 13, 2015. Thousands of police officers and their families from all around the country are in Washington this week to honor officers who died in the line of duty for National Police Week.
"For several years, Concerns of Police Survivors has been encouraging citizens to fly blue ribbons from their car antennas during National Police Week. This year from May 11 through May 17, seeing thousands of blue ribbons flying from cars would be a tremendous show of support for our fallen officers and those still working the streets." - reference: http://www.nationalcops.org/police-week.asp
