Was just informed of a member of the group has passed away 4 days ago. Michael Shaffer. Mike suffered a severe head injury several weeks ago and was in Banner Health when he passed. Not sure what years he was at the Rhein, but to his family and friends, our condolences to you all at this time of sorrow.
We, the 435th SPS salute you sir and may you fly high and look over us all here.

Michael R. Shaffer, 56, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023.  Mike was born on March 4, 1967, to Richard S. Shaffer and Kathleen “Jean” Collins Shaffer, both deceased.  Mike was raised in Celina, Ohio, and graduated in 1985.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the 435th SPS (USAF Security Police) in Rhein-Main, Germany.  Mike also studied Criminal Justice at the Peace Officer Academy at M.V.O.T.E.C., Class of 1993.  He resided in Bradenton, Florida, for several years before moving to Surprise, Arizona, in 2000.  Mike was a kindhearted friend with a dry sense of humor.  He loved photography and considered it art.  He is survived by several cousins and his Beagle/Best Friend, Bentley.  A memorial service will take place at a later date, and family and friends will be notified.
