Douglas Edward Greenwood, son of Paul and Marion (Wilmot) Greenwood was born December 30, 1951, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1970. Doug joined the United States Air Force in September 1970. Over the next twenty years, he would serve all over the United States and in other countries; Thailand, Guam, Korea and Germany. In 1985, Doug was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, SD. It was at that time he met his soulmate, Jeanie, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. He was often referred to as Sgt. Greenwood. He expected the kids to work hard, do their studies and have fun while doing it. He was a wonderful husband, dad and Papa.

Doug learned to work at a young age. He often talked about having to ride his bike or hitchhike to get to work. His father was a chef and Doug learned much from him. He was never afraid to try a new recipe and invite people over to try them out. Doug’s work was always involved with security of some sort. The USAF allowed him to work with the K-9 Unit for almost half of his AF career. He met and kept in contact with many of his brothers and sisters in the military. He especially looked forward to the reunions of the 435th Security Police Squadron, Rhein Main AFB, Germany. After retiring from the USAF, he was hired as the first 911 Dispatch Supervisor, Huron Police Department in Huron, SD. Doug always wanted to move back to the New England area. They moved to the East Coast where he worked for Federal Police in Boston out of the JFK Federal Building. When they returned to South Dakota and for the next 12 years, until retirement, he would work security for USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Data Center. Over all these years, Doug would become a man known for his hard work, motivation, inspiration and mentoring. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. His military service was very important to him.

Doug had many loves. He loved his Lord and Savior; he wanted the same for his family and friends. He loved cars, spending time with his kids, grandkids and family both in SD and on the east coast. He always said he had two teams; the Boston Red Sox and anyone that beat the Yankees. He was a New England Patriot and Boston Celtics fan. Everyone in the family had a different team, so gameday was interesting at times.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanie Greenwood of Sioux Falls; children, Amy (Adam) Wilcox of El Mirage, AZ, Chae (Lorrin) O’Connor of Kuna, ID, Tonja (Mike) Jungwirth of Redfield, SD, Christine Therkildsen of Sioux Falls, and Daron Therkildsen of Brookings, SD; 11 grandchildren, Esme (TJ), Caleb, Kaylee, Ian, Riley, Arias, Johnathon, Amelia, Ian, Chloe, and Preslie; great grandson, Tyrian; siblings, Paulette (Jon) Hilson of Locust, NC and Carl (Laurie) Greenwood of Hinsdale, NH; mother-in-law, Jeanette Tschetter of Sioux Falls; and a host of additional family. Doug especially cherished his cousins in Maine and New Hampshire, his brothers and sisters of the United States Air Forces 435th Security Police Squadron and so many more cherished friends over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marion; granddaughter, Jessalyn; and father-in-law, Iky P. Tschetter.
