Well, where to start??

After high school I joined the Navy, and was lucky enough to see a lot of the Mediterranean and a good bit of Europe. Really enjoyed the travel, Believe it or not, I ran into a classmate, Ricky Mills, in a bar in Naples, Italy. But I got bored with the job. I got out off active duty but stayed with the reserves for about 10 years. I was assigned to a Special Forces outfit, "Special Boat Unit 20" in Norfolk working with the SEAL teams.

I went to work for Bell & Howell as a Service Technician. I did that for around 10 years. During that time I was also traveling up and down the East Coast shooting handguns competitively. I was nationally ranked and doing pretty well. I met my first wife while at a match. We got married and moved to Knoxville Tenn. where I was the General Manager of an indoor pistol range and gun store. The wife was a paralegal, but more importantly, was a thief, and was stealing from the attorney she was working for…..smart huh?

After it was all said and done, it cost me around $75,000.00 to keep her butt out of jail. She repaid me by divorcing me within a year of her getting out of trouble. To this day, I have no idea what she did with the money.

I moved back home, (Chesterfield) went back to school, got an Associates Degree in Electronics/Computer Science, held several Technician jobs till I landed at the Virginia Lottery. I managed the Electronic Repair Shop for about 12 years. I was single for 14 years and had pretty much had given up on finding anyone, and was perfectly happy with that. I met Judy, my wife, on a blind date, and we just hit it off from the start. We were both kinda in the same place…not really “looking” anymore, and just having a good life alone. We met in January/05, were married July/05. Neither of us had kids, and didn’t want any!!! We sold our houses and bought 10 acres in New Kent County and built our dream house there, and now share a wonderful life, traveling, riding our motorcycle (Honda Goldwing), SCUBA diving (we are going to Aruba over Thanksgiving this year to dive). We play golf, are avid bicyclist, (road riders) We make beer and wine at the house, and live with my English bulldog “Boomer”.

He is a rescue, and absolutely the love of my life!!!! (don’t tell Judy..). I’m very active with “On the Rebound” Bulldog Rescue Foundation. We transport several dogs a year to and from the headquarters in Northern Virginia.

I originally wrote this....or most of this, responding to an e-mail from one of our classmates....(You know who you are)...I hope you don't mind me reusing some of it for this.

I didn't make it to any of the other reunions (was never notified :(....so I'm really lookin forward to seeing everyone again!!

Where did the past 30 years go???

School Story:

I will always remember being part of the Football program that Coach Swellns turned around. The Central District Championship, Playing at City Stadium on the astro-turf, beating Petersburg...at Petersburg!!...The "Dog Squad" after practice.....and those darn Saturday morning films of Friday nights game!...

I remember Graduation week at VA Beach....or some of it. I remember "someone" putting some kind of hair remover on half of Doug Wilburn's mustache, and him refusing to shave the other half off for the rest of the week. I remember "someone" drawing something on Brian Slater's back with sunscreen and having it "appear" the next day in the sun......I remember Susan Cudzik being introduced to “Purple Passion” for the first time, although I’ll bet she doesn’t.

I remember the tragic loss of Greg Carr. To this day, I can't hear "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles, or drive down Turner Road with out flashing back to that day. I sadly remember the terrible day that we lost Pat Harrington, Colleen’s beautiful, younger sister….We were just kids being kids, and accidents do happen…..but damn, it’s just not right somehow for kids to die….especially, not our friends.

I remember the Toga Parties at Craig Williams’s house, sleigh riding at midnight at Forest Hill Park, “Two Bit Beer and Hotdog night” at Parker Field. I remember hanging out at the “Tressle” over the James River.

I remember first loves we thought would last forever, and the broken hearts we never thought we’d survive.

I remember fake ID’s, and discovering “Ole English 800”…….But most of all, I’ll always remember the friends and friendships, and how truly fortunate I was to be a part of Manchester’s class of 1980.

High Five! I have no idea where he learned this...one day he just did it. I worked with him a little and got him to do it on command.
