After succeeding as a student-athlete @ University of Virginia, making Dean's List, I was a graduate assistant in football & wrestling @ Hampden-Sydney College & then as a graduate assistant in the strength & conditioning program @ UVA. I moved on as a counselor @ Adventure Bound School, leaving eventually to return to Henrico County as a teacher & coach. Summers were spent in Maine @ Camp Winnebago. Life is grand.

Life took a turn with a major back injury requiring L1-L5 fusion surgery, spinal stenosis crept up from my gene pool, peripheral neuropathy, vascular problems in both my feet & finally severe degenerative hip disease & severe osteoarthritis. The later was taken care of by bilateral hip replacement surgery. In-patient physical therapy was very successful, graduating from LongFace University with honors. The new left one dislocated after two weeks & I continue in outpatient physical therapy to this day.

Since my back injury, I found my place in this world, with the Disciples Homeschool Football Program. I started as a Coach, moved to Athletic Director & now as Athletic Director Emeritus. Even though I've retired from day-to-day operations with the Disciples, I continue to help anytime, anywhere I'm needed.

My next step is to work with the fledging operation, Kids & Pros, providing free football camps, learning centers & scholarships to kids from all walks of life. All of this on disability. I continue to find abilities in my disabilities. Never taking "no" as an answer sure helps. My overdeveloped sense of "no" still serves me well!!!

My goals are to help kids, praise God & encourage education & sports. All of these done, of course, with God in mind. He is the main reason I have made it this far & will make it to my journey to the Appalachian Trail & beyond. Anyone I can motivate to be better than they are, that I will do.

I'd love to be there but my hips, high school & college football previous engagements are calling my name. My two new hips may prevent me from coming more than the Disciples & the Hoos.

Wish all who attend a great time. Enjoy each other!!! We ain't getting any younger?!?!
