Oh,Kathy,I love you so much ! You do not know how often I think of you !!! I would think about how you were doing at school.I was wondering if you retired.I left nursing about 3 years ago,I have been up all night! I have to take courses every two years to keep my nurses license.I wanted to finish the hours so I can get my license before it runs out on May 31.I do not intend to nurse again, but you never know .

I pray you are doing well !! I thank you so much for helping with the reunion ! I have heard from Mike also.

I must catch up with you in October ! I do hope my son and my daughter Laura( in law.) but she treats me like a daughter,You would love her.She is a Physical therapist for all the PT.s and OT's for the special needs in Henrico County Schools. She is the coordinator also.

I pray you will stay safe.I am quarentined at home by all my children.I have too many risk factors including asthma.

Love,

Charlotte

So glad to hear you will be there in October!  Yes, much catching up to do.

Hope you are enjoying retirement.  I retired in 2014. Truly miss having "my kids," but not everything else involved.

Good luck with that recertification!!

Pat my memory of graduation was Ms. Quarles calling my name, Vicki Elizabeth Valen-teen instead if Valentine :/ I guess I'm legal! I couldn't even correct her, I was so shocked.

My memory of graduation was the 2 foot by 2 foot hankerchief someone made and we were tossing it into the air during the ceremony.

Classmates,

Mike (Heflin) asked me to post this for you. We are trying to retrieve Pat's password to send an e-mail out to the class but have been unable to.  In the meantime please pass this sad news to your classmates. Please put Pat's family in your thoughts and prayers, and both the Mikes in particular..

Obituary

Patricia Neely Heflin, 68, of Richmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on June 4, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Julian Austin Neely and Anne Manolovich Neely. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Michael Heflin. She is also survived by two loving daughters, Katie Caples (Chad) and Anne Kush (Dave); four adoring grandchildren, Fletcher Summerfield and Harrison Bradshaw Caples and Stella Elizabeth and Austin Thomas Kush; her brother, Mike Neely (Margarita); sister, Margaret Redford (Tommy Mark); and two nieces, Sarah Crocker and Rachael Redford.

Pat grew up in Richmond and graduated from Henrico High School. She attended Longwood College before transferring to VCU, where she earned her degree in special education and later a master’s degree. Pat taught in Henrico Public Schools for 33 years starting in special education and then third and fourth grades. As part of the county technology initiative, Pat had the opportunity to teach teachers how to incorporate computers into their lesson plans. She retired from Springfield Park Elementary as a resource teacher and liaison between the administration and faculty. In her 14 years of retirement, Pat and Michael enjoyed travelling with dear friends, and her life’s greatest joy was being Ama to her four precious grandchildren. All her life and especially during her illness, Pat found great strength and comfort in her faith in God.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 8 at Bliley’s - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where a celebration of Pat’s life will also be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9. For those who are unable to attend a livestream is availiavle by Clicking Here.. . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VCU Massey Cancer Center.

For Mike Heflin especially -

I am so very sad to hear about Pat.  She was so gracious and loving in her commitment to our high school class and particularly to individuals whose information she would share on this site.  All of us could be in touch because of her unending efforts to keep us together.  Occasionally Pat would "talk" with me here, and I was able to comment and to thank her for helping to keep some of the bonds still going amongst us.

Well done, Pat.  Well done.  You ran your race.  And now be completely rested in Jesus.

Message to Mike Heflin,

Mike no one knows what to say when you lose someone so cherished. Many of us have good memories of Pat and she will be missed. Only you and your family know her love and how special she is and will continue to be. As you, your daughters and grandchildren morn her death and cleberate her life there will be lots of tears. But also smiles and laughter when you and your family share stories about Pat and all of those great moments that you had together as a family.

Cookie

My heart is full of sadness at the passing of Pat. As one of her classmates at Henrico, I always saw a kind, loving, and generous soul. She will always be remembered as a special person who I believe never knew a stranger.

I know her family and close friends will miss her radiant smile and ability to make everyone feel at ease and at home. I am blessed to have known her in high school and through corresponding online.

To all of Pat’s family and friends, may God continue to bless you all with the joyful memories you shared with Pat. Heaven just gained another angel.

My deepest sympathy,

Jean Knaub Hughes

Lloyd, Cookie (and Diane) and Jean thank you for the kind words. Pat battled cancer for over two years. She always said that she knew she would be cured but didn't know if it would be here or in heaven. We are grateful that she is not suffering anymore.

Class of 70 50th Reunion is Back on.

October 23rd, 2021

Atlas 42 Event Venue at the Innsbrook Shoppes

Hello Classmates,

On behalf of myself and our classmates on our 50th  Reunion Planning Committee, first let me say with deep sadness that we are all mourning the loss of Pat Heflin (Neely) who has diligently maintained this site and helped with our reunions for years. As we all pass through the years and celebrate the life of so many of our loved ones that we have lost, everyone is invited to join us for our 50th Year Reunion (OK - 51st! Covid pushed this back a year) to reflect and connect with friends and classmates that we have not seen in a long time.

We have a great evening planned at a really nice venue, including plenty of good food, memorabilia, a cash bar, and DJ music with great songs from "back in the day." Plenty of seating both inside and outside.

Oklahoma was a wonderful experience. All the Actors & Actresses, singers, dancers, musicians and stage crew. It was I think, the highlight of my year at Henrico. I cannot remember even one problem. We all worked and performed as a team. As Bob Hope used to say............Thanks for the memories

Hi Yall,

Thank you so much for sharing those pictures Mark.I had no idea Oklahoma was that remembered.I do know that there were about 127 cast alone. There were singers and dancers which were not in any of the regular Choral or music departments. The auditions were open to everyone at Henrico. There was also the band members and I believe some from the Richmond Symphony.I also know that we must have some of the greatest parents and grandparents who put so much work in the props. John and Bob Beard's grandfather built  the  Gazebo,My mother worked to get a real coal stove from those days and the surry.I declare if we were allowed to bring in horses to pull the Surry !!! The librarian Mrs Lammy made many costumes and the designing of the costumes. Then for makeup a wonderful makeup and clothing artist Beverly Orndorf. This lady was the personal makeup artist who traveled with the very famous actress ,Marlene Dietrick.I was amazed at those who helped.

For the dancers,if I am not mistaken, there was the Richmond Ballet artist Randy Strawderman who assisted with that. Then there were also some real problems that arose. The art students and  Shop students built and painted the wonderful sets in Okalahoma. There were other students who came in to help. You all did not know that poor Mr Koch was given "H---" because a parent called and was furious. Her child was at Henrico until two in the AM and called Dr Pitts.Mr Koch was called in to office so many times. The principal did not even come to

Oklahome !!! That upset me ,He also refused to let us have a Monday performance because of so many requests !!! I believe they even went to the Arena to sing I believe Kathy Flickinger sung there with a group.,

Thanks to everyone !! Lyoyd.thank you for my lemon slices and the pitchpipe to have my B# for my first song.Thans to everyone who worked on the show. You sang, acted and danced your hearts out..It was great to see the pictures because so many have passed away .Since then.Mike Ellett,Ray Carter,Jack Carter,Little peddler man,Paul Novello,Mr Koch decided to leave Henrico and go back to get his Doctorette .The next muasic director Mr Hughes told Henrico that he refused to do a musical before he came !!!! Love you all,Charlotte

I would take a guess on the author of that "Oklahoma" descriptor :  Sue Yates.  She had a magical gift for creative writing.
