Dang...wish I were in town tomorrow! I'll be in Canton. Would love to plan another get together with everyone though!

July or August sound good to me too Heather. We are taking the kids to Mexico June 5th-13th for vacation this year. So if at all possible I would like to avoid those weekends! But hey, like Tiff says...I'm just one person.

I'm glad to see some others posting on here! It's so great to catch up with everyone. I hope this Thanksgiving has brough everyone closer and happier. I am thankful for my family, my friends (0ld and New) and that I'm about to graduate for the 2nd time!!!!

Love to all!
Allison

Welcome all for a quick & early visit tomorrow, I've started my happy hour this evening, no kids!! That's a rare occasion for me....whoever gets there first, get a booth at the bar & we'll squeeze as many as we can! I had a wonderful family fellowship today and am so blessed! I hope all enjoyed the same, for those who we have heard of illnesses, i know God's healing hand is at work. I agree with the other's, it is so nice to hear from you. Sara, I am so glad you've posted! Taurus, you too. Post some pictures, I was late in the game, too. I've added a little as we go. We are all so busy, I soooo understand.

Reba, Memorial Day or 4th of July would work great for me. Whatever the majority wants to do is fine. I had so much fun meeting up with you and Melissa (and eventually Ben) at Chili's on Friday. Lee was a little shocked at how much stuff I managed to cram in the back of the Yukon after almost 12 hours of non-stop shopping! I had so much I couldn't even bring it all back. Santa always comes to my mom's house anyway, so this year he made an early delivery and the kids will get it when they go for Christmas.

I liked the ideas of having a night for the adults and then an afternoon for the family. Picnic, bar-b-que or whatever sounds like a lot of fun if we're thinking about pleasing the kids in our group. As long as the school has a play ground, I know my kiddos would be happy. What about the older kids like yours? Will there be something for them to do? Just want to make sure we please the masses! I'm happy just to be able to see everyone again.

As far as the older kids are concerned we could put up some volleyball nets and maybe Coach Coker would let us use all of her air hockey tables in the elementary gym to entertain our older ones. They really should experience the entertainment available to all of us growing up. The entertainment our parents were aware of that is!

Hey ya'll. I am game for whatever is the most accomodating to everyone. I love taking vacation days anyway. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

Has anybody heard from Jill? Momma told me she had a heart attack a few months ago. I saw her dad in Castor a few weeks later and asked how she was doing. He said she was getting better and at that time staying at her moms house. If no one has heard anything else I can loop by her dads and try to get more info.

I think I have her phone number somewhere. I'll have to look for it.

Is it just me or is Christmas coming really fast this year? We just had Thanksgiving, yet I feel like I am running out of time. And the stores are already running out of the toys my kids want. I spent all day trying to find the Pixos super center (a gift both of my children want). Still looking...

*panic*panic*panic*
I haven't bought a single Christmas gift yet! Guess I will have to run around like crazy next week... (No way I'm fighting the crowds on a weekend!)

Any news on Jill yet?

Heather Evans (McFarlain)

Tiffany is the one who told me about Jill. My mom had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her what she knew. Allison, I like your ideas for the older kids. I was worried there wouldn't be anything for them to do and they'd be bored like we used to be before the days of DVD players, iPods and Nintendo DS. How did we ever function?

I have Lorrie and Jill's numbers. When I called no one answered. I will try again later. Lorrie's mom told me her husband was going to afghanistan sometime after the first of the year. Jill's brother told me she is doing much better and is back to work. I'll try to keep ya'll updated.

Anyone want to plan a game of softball while we are at the school for family day?

Tiff- yes, Christmas just seems to come faster (and more expensively) every year. Every year I say I'm cutting way back...but I never do. Luckily, I'm almost finished with EVERYONE! Just need to pick up cute rubber boots for my daughter and a new cell phone for my son...washed his in his jeans 2 days after we bought it. No insurance...of course. ARGGGHHH!

Oh, I did that too, with my own phone! Washed it.
And lost ALL my pix of my kids in it. Was very sad, because I hadn't downloaded them to the computer yet.
Luckily I got one sent back to me from a friend, of my daughter in the hospital when she was three weeks old (RS virus, very sick, very scary.)

I like the idea of softball. During my son's baseball banquet we played kickball the moms vs the kids. The only equipment you need is a kickball. I know it sounds kinda lame, but you can throw the ball soft at the little kids, but you can still peg an adult. It got kinda competitive, the moms were covering in dirt by the end from trying to slide into bases. We didn't want to get beat by a bunch of 6 year olds.

But I think most everyone likes softball and knows how to play it.

Do we have any suggestions for the location of our adults night out?

12/06/08 01:07 PM #76

Melissa Salter (Akers)

I was planning to call to get prices of the American Legion Hall in Ringgold because it was simple, probably low cost and everyone would know where it is as an option. There is also a VFW Hall at Koran and others in Bossier that may be low cost, opposing to Holiday Inn Rooms and such. I figured we'd have it catered and possibly open bar. But the fancier the higher the cost and with travel and kids and picnic....Those were some thoughts on our end. Reba, Heather and I were tossing ideas when we had lunch. We'll let all know. Having a large group spread out, someone is going to have to take charge and JUST DO IT! I'll keep everyone posted as it progresses. However, if anyone has any suggestions, please send Reba or myself a direct message! Also, anyone else is more than welcome to be the one to take charge or join the duo...

The kickball game sounds like fun, especially if we did it with the younger kids. My kids' school does an annual 5th grade vs staff basketball game in the fall and then an end of the year 5th grade vs staff kickball game. The 5th graders kicked the staff's butt last year and the principal broker her wrist. Talk about getting wild! Softball might be fun,too but for the older kids. Or, we could do both at different times. Keep in mind, it's going to be very HOT! We may not want to be outside in the heat playing anything for very long.

12/11/08 10:02 AM #79

Allison Oney (Ouzts)

Very true. It will be HOT. I think we can come up with some things to do inside as well. But I like the ideas of kickball games with little ones included and softball with the older kids like mine.

I hope everyone is staying warm today! Brrr...its cold here at Tech.

Okay, you guys who are teachers, do any of you use standard-based report cards? Do you like them or dislike them? This year at our elementary school, the 1st graders and kindergarteners are going to standard-based report cards. Next year, the 2nd graders will have standard-based report cards (this will be the 1st graders who move up). The kids do not recieve a letter grade, they get a number grade of 1-4. 1 is limited progress toward the standard, 2 is progressing to the standard, 3 meets the standards, 4 exceeds the standard. Apparently 4 is virtually unabtainable. They told us the kids should start with 1 and 2's. The goal is to have 3's by the end of the year.

So far, I can't stand these report cards. My kids got their report cards yesterday, and after looking at them, I didn't have anything to tell my kids. Not "way to go", not "you need to work harder in this certain area".

All I know is that they are still in school and apparently the teachers are still trying to teach them some things. OK...
