OK--new stuff: New Radicals, Gin Blossoms, James Blunt, Regina Spector, Norah Jones. (Is this even new?)

And yes, I also remember Tim's platform shoes! (Why do I have this in my mind???) ...I think they were black too...

It is GREAT to read all of this. Thanks Linda for the e-mail about this site. Betsy - The site really is wonderful. My Wife and I were discussing class reunions with our kids the other day. I can't believe it's been 30 years. I am looking forward to it.

Music Past: Santa Esmerelda, Jethro Tull, Yes, Kansas, Pink Floyd
Music Present: mostly radio...everything from rock to classical to NPR to christian (Brian- try Selah...my wife and I sing alot of their stuff at church)

I look forward to reading more here.

Thanks again, take care and God bless all.

Wow, look at all of the responses in less than a month. Thanks Betsy and Linda for putting this together. I've blown most of the morning looking at pictures and reading bios.
What is strange is how much people's kids look like they did when we were in school together. (DeVaux, Cropper, Hicks, Fleshman, Reynolds) I almost recognise the kids more easily than my classmates, talk about chips off the old block!
Then there are the classmates that haven't changed a bit...Crow, Potts, Bugner, Reynolds, Key, Settles, etc.....come on and get old like I did!
Parkie, you and Tim haven't changed a bit either, still the clowns. Thanks for the visual of your wild and crazy guys skits at school. I had almost forgotten ;). You actually made a good conehead too. (are you sure you were just 'listening' to Up in Smoke?!?

I think I saw Tim's platforms hanging over a power line on Salem Avenue last week! LOL

Wie geht's Schultz, I had no idea you were still in town, we go back a few years my old german friend!

Music then is still the best music now, I still have Eagles, Kansas, BTO, Foghat, Stones, Heart, Queen and many others mentioned here going thru my head and on my "oldies" station daily.
This is fun!

Well - we are up to 85 people on the website! Thanks Linda for getting in contact with more. Over 1/2 have pictures up. Please keep the word going.

And by the way Billy - I think some of us may have fried a few more brain cells than others which is why some of us have no recollection of Tim in platform shoes. (sorry - I don't either) Hell- I have no idea the name of any of my homeroom teachers either - how do you guys remember this stuff!

Of course, it could just be old age - Who knows??

Hey talk about the 70's music. Does anyone remember listening to Barry Manilow. I remember hanging out at Linda Claque's house with my friends and listening to his songs. Then when I was attending Roanoke College we got to sing back up with him in a concert. Got an autographed record. Does anyone remember what a record is? LOL

Great stuff everyone...keep the memories coming. I have been having some great exchanges with Jeff Reynolds and have heard from Laurie Buggner (thanks you're still a very warm person), of course Betsy, Liz, Toni L. and Sue Hicks. It's fantastic to see all the pictures and go down memory lane. I remember really being into Jazz music (probably an influence from my older brother) Chick Corea and Return to Forever,Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Jeff Beck, Al Demeola, Stanley Clark. As for Rock'n Roll I also listened to Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Allman Brothers Band, Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne...I could go on. Soul inflected music, I loved Ramsey Lewis, Al Green, Earth, Wind and Fire. As others have mentioned, Saturday Night Live was big and The Bee Gees, whenever I hear it it takes me right back to Senior year, where I'm sitting in Pat Carr's art class chillin' out and yukin' it up with everyone and biding my time until graduation, college and you know the rest...Memorable teachers for me were Mrs. Wilkerson, (She loved talking to anyone!) Mrs. Dechow, (that stare could incriminate anyone) Mr. Shackleford (I think he was a VMI grad. and I could never imagine him in or chewing out a rat line) and finally, Mr. Weinstein. We had the greatest time our senior year in his class and he definitely instilled a love for books and learning that I will always cherish.

Woops, I also should mention Pam Cropper...sorry Pam. And my twin brother Chris, we've been towing the memory lane a tad bit more than we usually do.

Does anyone remember a song called or containing a lyric "Cracker Box Palace", I haven't heard it in decades, but it keeps popping into my head. I remember listening to it in my Mustang, turning onto Chapparel Drive from Franklin Road, near the the 7-11. Am I delusional?

04/11/08 10:01 AM #41

A N (N)

Oh, yes! No, Greg, you're not delusional--It's George Harrison! Google the title--you can find a great video on YouTube! Really bad lip-synching by George Harrison too!

Who would have thought that 30 years later anyone would remember my shoes! I have been cracking up. We had a great class and a lot of fun. The music references have been great. I loved disco back then but have turned into a rocker in my old age. Jeff Reynolds has been sending me stuff that I hadn't thought about in years...The Coffee Pot, WCHS Radio, Big Wheel, Keg parties. We had a great time. I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of you.

I just dug out our old yearbook. I still have the last Knight letter, the graduation invitation and an invite from Mrs. Cobbles home ec. class where I married Rob Anderson and Tim Hudson married Frances (Louise) Blosser!
What a trip, I left Rob 3 kids in my last will in the paper! (Did you all know that Mrs. Cobble is the principal of CSHS now? She hasn't changed a bit either, still petite with big hair!)
Our class was so large, it is no wonder that I have a hard time remembering people. I looked at every name and face and was shocked at how many I didn't know back then. Wish I had a do-over in some ways, reading the bios now, I seem to have missed out knowing some great people.
Tim I hate to admit but until I went thru the yearbook I forgot that you were our Knight! But I do remember your shoes!
Yes Laurie, I hope it is a compliment that so many haven't changed, although some look totally different. I just read Patti Lensch's bio, we were best friends back then and lost track right after the Sr. beach trip. Seeing her picture now I wouldn't have recognised her if I passed her on the street!
I too have been in contact with Reynolds, he came home to visit his mom and found a bunch of cool stuff, old schedules, the senior handbook of rules (that I must have never read since I stayed in trouble!)
Thanks Jeff, great to hear from you and Betsy Crow and Brian Parker!
Keep this going, I can't wait to see how many join in and how their lives have turned out!

Hey Dorothy, Mrs. Cobble went to Dr. Cobble!! She was principal of CS until June of 2007. She was sooooooo loved.. By kids, parents and staff. I worked with some of the parents on an idea of something to do for her. We decided on several things.. 2 of them being so neat. One mom took old CS tee shirts and cut them and made them into a 2 sided quilt for her. She was forever into that school and was there endless hours. She bled red, black and white. SO with that in mind, another mother and myself came up with the perfect plan. We contacted several of the Knights from the last few years. We invited them to the school to the assembly on Senior Day. Martha was called to the front of the, in walked that years Knight and 3 others. She was ordered to kneel and she was Knighted!! To which followed about 5 minutes of applause and a lot of tears. She told me later that there was nothing else that we could of done that meant more to her. We had her a certificate framed stating that she was a honorary Knight. We now have Steve Spangler, who was the football coach that coached Tiki and Rhode Barber. The ONLY comment I have on him is...
DAMN, MARTHA WE DID NOT KNOW HOW GOOD WE HAD IT AND WE WANT YOU BACK!!!!!

Anne thanks for the information. I must have seen the video in about 1980. I think its a repressed memory or something. It might explain the quarter that I can't remember at Va. Tech, which explains why I'm not an Engineer. Now I'm old enough to handle that kind of stuff now.

Tim, mention of the Coffeepot brings back some memories, the cowboy hats and boots, loud country music and beer. Looking back, the 18 for beer and 21 for the rest drinking age seems crazy. A few years can really change your view. Unbelievably, our Vermont legislature is talking about lowering the drinking age to 18. I'd like to show them a video of every drunk driving accident I went to when I was an EMT. I know this space is for the fun memories, but you see how they can lead to serious ones, too. Many of you have high school and college age kids, talk to them again. There's a cop, like my wife, and an EMT somewhere who will sleep better because you talked to you kids about drinking and driving.

Hello Everyone,
I have spent the last 24 years in the FBI. Can anybody beat this record: 36 changes of address in 18 years!
I hope all are well and I am looking forward to seeing all of you in September.
Take Care, Rob

Brian Parker

Brian Parker here. We are all having a BLAST catching up here but it can be too easy to take for granted how this all started. No, this ain't about the birds and the bees. We already know that.

We do need to call a TV time-out though and thank Betsy and Linda. They have been working very hard doing something I know at least some of us were thinking about last Summer-it sure would be nice if we could have a 30-Year!

Thanks for being those people. We all just want to get together for a fun weekend, or even just one night. Knights are forever. Thank you for what is being accomplished, we have a ton of fun to look forward to by Summer's end!

I'll probably be standing in line to do this but I'd like to be the first to buy you two a beer. Have a great evening, kick back some. And let me know what I can do to lighten the load. Peace to your spirit!

(As soon as I hit the SUBMIT button I know I'll be sending one of Laurie Bugner's zillion RESPONSES over the top. Girl, you sure are racking up the frequent flyer miles, love hearing from you too-keep 'em rolling! But now I gotta git, Dancing with the Stars is back on...)

How the heck do y'all remember and find all of this stuff? Jeff Reynolds and Brian Parker and some of you girls around here should go work at the darn National Archives or Smithsonian in DC or something. Most mornings I can't even find matching socks and all of my ties have energy drink stains down the front of them. Last week, I forgot what shop I took my lawnmower to for servicing and had to ask the neighbor! These darn high-school kids now days want 40 bucks to cut the grass. Wait a minute, I hear my berry going-off, but I can't find it, I wonder if I left it outside? Maybe FBI guy Robbie Anderson can trace it from a satelite or something. Give me some help here, Robbie............

04/17/08 10:25 PM #50

Robert Anderson

Hello Billy Bova, nice to see you are still alive. By the way, your Berry in is the dark blue bag by the back door and yes, I can track it from a satelite. You should really start stopping at those stop signs too.
Later buddy!
Rob

Robbie - Well now I really am scared, because my blackberry really was in my samsonite work bag by the backdoor, sitting in the floor!!! You know, that thing does have GPS, I sometimes wonder if they are tracking me, and every now and then I do travel abroad, come to think of it, it works in those places also! OK, I do blow through some stop signs every now and then, but mostly around New Orleans where they aren't too good since the storm in keeping the darn weeds cut back away from them. Did you see me going down Canal Street yesterday around 11am, I was running late for a meeting? Quit watching me, I swear I behave in my older age!!! Please say hello to your family back in VA for me, they were always wonderful-good people! Your sister was sooo pretty, and I think older than us. When I was that age I always liked the older girls, I don't know why, I probably should schedule another session with the shrink!!!

I gotta tell y'all, I have been looking through some of the profiles tonight, and our class really did produce some fabulous Americans! One girl has been in the Navy for 23 years, still serving out in California, been around the world! What discipline and dedication, God I love it! Just one person after another that have achieved much, have beautiful families, making their way through life, aging well and gracefully, with great values and respect for where they have been and where they seem to want to go. I am as proud of you folks as my neighbor is of his new speckled-pup! Now I'm going to bed, and I hope in the morning that I can find some matching socks! Man I gotta stop, I guess this is why people pay me to write speeches for them. They also need to start paying some more!!!

Man that is some funny stuff, I've been cracking up for 5 minutes now.

Knowing that my ex-CSHS-husband is in the FBI, I should probably hold off on shipping those warheads in that batch of kitchen cabinets I sold to Abdulah last week!

Luckily my only "berry" was in the yogurt I just ate for lunch (gotto lose some lb's before that September reunion ya know)
Without GPS I should be safe. Might oughta keep a weedeater in the trunk Billy (If you remember where you left it) LOL

Reading all these messages. I wonder, since came to Roanoke for the start of our soph. year, does anyone remember me. I remember a few of you guys and gals but over the years and moves I have lost my yearbook, so pictures with profiles help me remember you. I remember Mrs. Cobble, Mrs.Pack, Billie Reid, oh yes Dr. Dechow, for biology. It all went by so fast. I am hoping I can make it to the reunion. Somehow, I don't remember those shoes you keep talking about. I still cannot believe it has been thiry years. One thing will always be "knights are forever"

Happy weekend to all, just thinking about those high school days and just wondered if anyone remembered their Senior Beach Trip??? I remember the trip down, when everyone I went with wanted to put me out on the side of the road because I kept asking are we there yet! We got to Martinsville and Hell I thought we were close, you see I never saw the Beach before I went my senior year. To this day I love to go whenever I can but nothing will ever be as fun as then.We had an old station wagon packed down with Beer,Liquor and hairdryers...Those were the days! I think I just might have some photos....LOL
